Here I found an old pic form the MVA thread showing part of the oil pan.

https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...chmentid=31807

It's odvious Marcos didn't really want to show the underside pics but you can clearly see how the oil pan virtually wraps around the rack. Like I said before, he got really creative.

I've seen those images and I assumed that's what would have to happen. It'd be interesting to see how oil actually gets in and out of that little area...seems to me it'd just be easier to go dry sump and spare the expense of a new subframe/spindles.

A complete dry sump setup is not going to be cheaper or easier than the sub-frame conversion.

Here's my guess... Maybe there's a threaded connection tube that fits under the rack and connects the small front pick-up section to the main sump. A threaded connection tube would make it possible to remove the oil pan. I also believe that they engineered the oil pick-up to pass through this connection tube. Who knows, I may be totally wrong...oh well

Sadly, all this talk seems to revolve around FDs. I don't even know of a 20b subframe that will fit in a FC.

Is the 20b subframe what causes the bumpsteer? Or is it the people trying to use the 13b mounts that causes the bumpsteer?

the stock cosmo 20B oil pan is no better. It has a hump in the front that is a trap for used oil which will never drain completely without removing the oil pan.

Thats because Fc's don't need custom subframes to do the conversion. I think I read somewhere that Mazda did plan to put a 20b in the Fc and designed the subframe accordingly. They just never did. Because of this all one needs to do is just buy the custom aftermarket engine mounts that are available. Mazda designed the Fd's subframe so it would mainly fit only 13b's. Thats why the conversion in the Fd is usually more expensive.

So what's the point in using the front section at all? Why not just "flatten" that section to clear the steering rack with a custom oil pan and change the shape elsewhere to increase the capacity?

The front section is part of the oil pick up line and the oil pump pulley assembly. You can flatten some but you'll have issue clearing the oil pick up line

It looks like the oil pick-up tube is bent that way to clear some stuff up front.

Ahh great photo, thanks! So essentially it's there to house the feed tube to the oil pump. Wonder if you could flatten the pan there (just a flat sheet) and screw the pickup in through the flat part of the pan with some sort of a removable hard line (or braided) going underneath the steering rack...would leave you vulnerable to catastrophic failure if that line broke...

Wow... wait a minute here..

So, did you use stock fd motor mounts and fd end plate also?? or are you using 20b end plate??

all the info I been reading, I've heard you don't need to push the engine back.. ie cutting the firewall.. Like PFS' old 20b conversion.

It's funny looking back 3 years and seeing Ted still signs his post the same way. After 3 years you'd think he would stop signing his name after each post. WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE NOW TED!!! lol
