Collins 20B to 350Z/370Z/G35/G37 Trans Adapter Kit

Hello all!

It has been six maybe eight months of waiting for this adapter kit to finally arrive in the mail. I AM THE FIRST TO GET MY HANDS ON THIS ADAPTER KIT (I THINK AHAHAH).

As of right now, I am in the process of preparing an un-boxing YouTube video. I will also post some pics of how to cut the bell housing of the 350z trans.

First, I am not a rep of Collins. I am not being paid to do anything for him. I am trying to give everyone in the Rx7 community a look at a product before they make the jump to buying this adapter kit.

It will run roughly ~$1000 to buy the full kit. I will get more detailed information regarding cost.

There are two options open to the public for this kit. Option 1 is to buy the regular kit less clutch/flywheel setup. Option 2 is to buy the entire kit including the flywheel and clutch kit. Prices range in price.

This is what was taken from the website:
This adaption kit consists of the following parts:

Adapter plate (works with FC Automatic Bell-housing only (at the moment, RX-8 bellhousing is available January 2016))
Flywheel adapter (must use Aftermarket FC Turbo 2, or FD flywheel)
ARP or equivalent Flywheel bolts
Pilot Bushing for Rotary Eccentric shaft
Bolts to Fasten the adapter plate to the transmission
Bolts to fasten the adapter plate to the Mazda 13b automatic bell housing
Stickers

Does Not include (but requires) the following:
13B FC Automatic bell housing
FC FD Counter Weight
FC Automatic Flexplate
FC Automatic Starter
Automatic Rear housing is not required however it is preferred, as the manual rear housing has two bolt holes in different positions, but it will work without those bolt holes.

Proudly made in the USA

Thanks!!!!

Only took a million months

Once I get the Forester's suspension finished I will start working on the FD again. Has been several months before I even touched it.

I will hopefully have everything I need to make sure this Z transmission swap is straightforward for those interested in the swap. Z transmissions, even CD009 or later, are a dime a dozen compared to the T56. Lets just see if they are worth this crazy customization.

I have a brace already for my rear diff. I'll be making a brace for the trans.

I'll post some pics when the fd is actually back in the garage :p.

Wow - this is pretty interesting. Very interested in seeing how this turns out. Late model low mileage versions of these transmissions are very easy to get.

They sure are. Can buy one new for around $1800.

I love that this would (presumably) use the FD flywheel/clutch, slave cylinders, and starter.

With the adapter plate, and shifter relocation pieces done, seems like it would only need bracing/PPF replacement, and perhaps a wiring adapter to be a true "kit". Is there a good shop local to you that would be into working with you on that?

Yeah. My garage and my dad .

Defined auto use to make a brace for the diff that allowed you to remove the PPF. However, now they discontinued it.

On the website it looks like they are attempting to use the PPF and possible make a bracket to attach it to existing holes on the 350z tranny

That is true. However, I opted to get rid of that annoying ppf so I have a tubular brace for my rear diff and then will have one for my trans.

I'm all for a PPF. Having a dedicated subframe/brace for the diff in lieu of a ppf will loosen the filling of your molars…I tried that and ended up with a modified Hinson PPF.

Sounds like your braces were solid mounted? Properly engineered setup wouldn't vibrate like that.

Thing is, anything with isolation is also going to have movement. The nice thing about the PPF is that it's a solid tie up of the diff/trans/motor which is then isolated as a unit through engine and diff bushings.

I've seen a trans brace (like the Banzai) with a big bushing on it, but I don't recall seeing any diff braces that aren't solid. A PPF adapter setup would be ideal to start, and then people can add the additional bracing as they see fit.

I wouldn't even put banzai's brace in the league with the one I have.

My buddy Damian is using a similar tubular brace on his 20b FD. From my understanding he hasn't had issues. He has a DogBox for a trans though. Not sure if that'll make a difference.

I have been overcome by a cold this past week and a half so once I fully recover I will update with pics/videos/ect.

Bump has anyone actually installed the Collins adapter into a FD? I've searched and couldn't find anyone actually running it.
