CMonakar Mandeville 20B GT42R Project
Wow, I'm not really sure what to say either, its hard to believe he's gone. I never met him in person, but he and I were kinda working on our 3-rotor projects together (as much as you can across the states). We were both having the same problem with the late spool of the 42R. I was planning on PM'ing him when I got back in town to see how the new turbine housing was working out and then I saw this thread.
My condolences to his friends and family.
I hope his FD goes to a good home.

Chris and I would chat on AIM about ECU's and his favorite topic, injectors ms, from cranking to idle. I never have had the chance to meet him but I know that he was a great guy.
You will be missed Chris, rest in peace.

I didn't know if I was going to post in this thread or not but after talking to John I decided to go ahead. For the closest of Chris's friends, John, Rich, Gordon and Myself. You already know
Chris touched alot of Lives. Many of you knew him from this forum, some of us were lucky enough to know him personally and share in everything in his life both good and bad at times.
For those that didn't know Chris personally you missed out knowing one of the smartest, most articulate and modest people you would ever meet. When he wasn't studying and spending time with his wonderful girlfriend he was talking cars.
Chris went to Boston University and went through their law program and graduated high in his class. I knew Chris during those days and used to visit him there on occasion. (Once blowing a motor racing a Viper on my way to see him)
Chris and I spent most of our time while he was in school working on our cars at my parents house in the garage till the early hours in the morning. He was always ready to pick up a wrench and lend a hand in any project i was working on. He had a 94 MB at the time. After getting a single turbo conversion, getting a ride in my car and going with me to the track he just had to have a single. He built his own kit on a strict budget and installed it himself.
Soon after graduating and getting his first real job we both happened to move down to NJ about the same time. I didn't have a place to store my car anymore so he bought it off me and started his 20B conversion. It was his passion.
It took much longer then he had anticipated and as any 20B project alot more $$ then had been anticipated. Chris wasn't one to quit anything though. He was a very driven individual and nothing would get in the way of him following through on any goal he set for himself. He just didn't know how to quit. This is a guy who passed the NY bar on the first try!
This made Chris not only driven but loyal to the things and people important to him. Its difficult to find loyalty like this.
He got a real job and was well on his way toward the success he had worked toward. Finally almost 4 years as an Attorney in NYC for a large Finance Company he was nearly finished with the car and ready to make the next steps in his life.
There were so many things he wanted to do in his life that he never had a chance to do. He wanted to Marry his Girlfriend, He wanted to buy a House, he wanted to finish this 20B project! He had big plans and in time I know he would have achieved all these things.
Chris I am going to miss you buddy, I still cant believe your gone. I'm totally Crushed.
Your Friend,
Mike

I got an email from Jack Lambert saying Chris passed away and I was felt gutted. Had no news until I got this link.
Chris and I met randomly in Boston (since I used to have an FD back in the days, we had tons to talk about). We became good friends and later roomates. From having trips to Miami to NYC to ATL to hanging out at the BU library when he was in law school to late night Shwarma King (his fav hole in the joint falafel place).
Here is a pic of us with a homeless guy in NYC. Will miss you Chris

Mike, I'm glad you decided to post....I'll call you tonight.
I spoke to Ray Crowe and he was in disbelief. Ray has overnighted hundreds of oem parts to Chris to help in the 20B project over the years, and was very upset to hear the news.
Also, I learned that the wake will be Thursday and the Funeral on Friday up in Rochester, again more details to follow.

I met Chris back around 2000. He was working near Ft. Lee at the time. We started talking on the internet and met up to put together an idea for ducting air to the radiator for front mount setups. It worked quite well. He used similar ducting on his 20b. I still remember when we were doing test runs with temperature gauges on the back roads by Giants Stadium. Just the other week I had a chance to drive his 20b on those same roads. Was one of the fastest cars I have driven. We talked about me racing him with my 1000rr. I didn't think this would affect me this much but I get quite upset whenever I think of the times we spent together.
Gordon,
I called Alfie and let him know, He was shocked of course. Alfies mom called me and I gave her some details. The Desfosses family were good to Chris while he was in School, he lived with them in NH and he worked at thier law firm doing his Internship back in the 2001 to 2002 time frame.
Also I would like to apologize to Ihor and Sam that i didn't mention them as close friends of Chris's. Chris had many friends and many that I don't personally know so i apologize if I left anyone else out.

Recently Chris and I took a trip out to Gordon's place in PA with his 20B, and the car was insanely fast, sounded so beautiful. at 10 psi it was the fastest car I've been in, and so torquey.
It wanted to rev past 8000 rpm, I know Chris was really looking forward to bringing it up to 9k, he also was stoked because he had swapped out rear A/Rs from a 1.15 to a 1.0 and had gained a lot of boost response.
I'm glad we took the time to do that, I'd be kicking myself right now if I turned him down......I want to somehow be involved with the completion of his project, it's close to being done. RIP buddy

I've known Chris for several years now... But it was until past 2 years we chatted in regular basis about cars and life... We've talked about his 20B projects, shared ideas about rotaries, learned from each other about cars, talked about women, and friendship was formed.
I am in total shock as another rotary owner AIM'd me and told me about this... At first I thought it was a joke.. but it doesn't seem like it after reading all the threads..
All I can say at this point is that my heart goes out to his girl friend and his family... And Chris, You will be remembered and Rest in Peace buddy!!! I've learned a lot about rotaries from you and I will cherish our conversations.. I just wished you could of made it to DGRR and wished we had met in person... Good bye buddy and see you in another life.....

Phil, thanks much for posting that, I just got the information from Marisa and was about to post it.
I'll call you back in a few minutes.....I think it says alot about the impact Chris had on our community when I have 8 voice mails in one day on my cell phone from fellow rotorheads expressing their disbelief and sadness......
Here's another link to the obituary:

Btw, when I was on the phone with Marisa speaking about Chris I was driving through a deserted industrial section of Hoboken, and a lightning bolt stuck a telephone pole about 100 yards from my car, causing a shower of sparks and lighting up the sky. It may have been a coincidence, but it scared the **** out of me either way.

Holy ****...I'm speechless. I jumped on this thread to catch the update and I come up with this.
Seriously depressing news. I've talked with him on AIM on occasion. My heart goes out to his friends and loved ones. At least he got to accomplish his project before he passed. Hopefully someone deserving ends up with his FD that's full of hard work and dedication.
RIP

That car needs to go to the right hands or be kept, not just sold to whoever and not be appreciated. Having the business I have, I see so many of these cars waste away. I wouldn't want to see years of hard work and dreams go down the same road.
