3 rotor "build it yourself" kits?

Besides kiwi-re who sells a complete kit to use existing 13b/12a parts for a 3 rotor?

How much are they?

Is it cheaper to just buy a 20b?

Trying to give myself a headache doing research for the best and COOLEST option i can think of for a motor next year if i scrap my 2 rotor......

Yowza!

He's right. I've seen them sell as low as $2,900;
You would cringe at the price they sell for in Japan. Anyhow, I'd stick to buying them on eBay or call Nippon Motors (in CA). They typically have them ready to go @ $3,500;

only use the kit if you are going to build a PP motor, otherwise 20b is the only way to do it.

Thanks for the help! Definitely makes things alot more clear!

If that's the case, i'm wondering if i can shave a buttload of overhead cost off by requesting motor only, no trans and no twins (turbos). Time to pm japan2la!

He doesn't sell them that cheap, you'll have to look elsewhere.

I now know this. Lol.

But the extra money is going towards peace of mind.... That's why he has the rep he does. He doesn't bullshit around a lie about mileage/compression/engine specs.

Alot of importers assume you're going to blow the thing up on startup. No warranty, Just tears. They dont bother to check anything. "yeah, this looks good. Throw it on a pallet and sell it."

Hey now, you just said a "a lot of importers.." please bring proof of that before spouting that type of info. You are scaring business away by making statements like that.

now back on topic.. I'm not sure there are many guys who buy 20B engines and install them without an overhaul so in that case I dont know where the extra $1k piece of mind sits.

Anyhow, I think we all agree it's a lot cheaper to buy a working 3rotor vs. a kit for 13B engines.

Wow! Those prices are horrendous! The exact same 3 rotor kit can be bought elsewhere for half that price, and the 4 rotor kit for a third less.

Keep in mind those are full built race motors and in NZ dollars. Not just a stock 20B copy. He does all the porting by hand, all the mods to the oil galeries/stationary gears etc in house. The E shafts are custom made to his spec I believe (dont quote me on that). I dont think these are a kit from anywhere that hes on selling?? Mad mikes 4 rotor makes over 500whp NA on their dyno and that dyno is known to read a little low compared to others. And that motor is STILL in the car and hasnt been opened up once since built from what I was told. Thats like 4-5 years of drifting on the same motor.

Yep. It's worth the arm and a leg.

hwnd, i didn't say the "majority of" i said "a lot".

I also didn't drop any names.

It's not nearly as bad/scary out there than it was 8 years ago.

Freakin start up warranty only on b series honda engines. Front clips were cheaper to ship then and were worth it if the engine didn't work or not. 8 years ago, an rhd conversion was actually cool.

International

This is a general list of parts available to convert Mazda 13b/12a type engines to 3 or 4 rotor variants, only the modified parts are listed, as most others are Mazda items, or are easily fabricated by a competent engine builder.

All prices are in NZ$ and no allowances for shipping etc have been made.

1. 3rotor shaft assy NZ$2750 (12a based version same price)
2. 4rotor shaft assy NZ$3950 (includes special rear c/weight)(12a same price)
3. Centre iron modification for 3 or 4 rotor kits NZ$900 (2 req for 4 rotor)
4. Thru bolt set (10mm) for 3 rotor NZ$480
5. Thru bolt set (10mm) for 4 rotor NZ$500 (12mm also available)
6. Dowel set for 3 rotor kit NZ$160
7. Dowel set for 4 rotor kit NZ$170
8. Direct oil feed for 3/4 rotor kits centre iron NZ$100 (2 req for 4rotor)
This mod is not a necessity only an upgrade for the oiling system.
9. Replacement 20B shaft assy NZ$2750.
10. 20b shaft assy, 3 piece with extra needle bearing assy NZ$3700 (3rotor version same
price)
11. 13b/12a centre bearing eccentric shaft kit NZ$2350

Note that the centre iron mod cost is only for the mod, it does not include the cost of a standard front gear or the iron, these items, especially the housings vary greatly in price depending on the year/type. They can be priced on submission of version required.
