20b?

Ok before i start dont take offence all you 20b guys.

What is the Advantages of fitting a 20b?

I have a 400rwhp car on a 13b engine, i can see the power will be more easly obtained but wont there be more weight on the car and there for mess up my cars Handling?

Another set of Apex tips etc for rebuilds and the parts are becoming rare and Expencive.

Thanks

Well, the BIG difference is torque and reliability..

A 20B will have a much better power curve too..

although a 13B can make 400RWHP fairly reliably, it is peaky at best compared to a 20B

i see a couple of advantages, and a few disadvantages.
pros:
the 20b will pull 4th gear from walking speed
its smoother than any13b
you can make 400hp and not be as hard on the motor (less boost)
it looks cool, and sounds amazing
its easier to work on than the 13bt

cons:
the gas mileage is not so good, i'm getting 14-16mpg
it will heat your house (the stock turbos anyways)
its expensive (3500-4000 for a jdm motor)
cooling can be a problem
the handling is different, its not bad, or worse it just feels different than a normal fc

And your stock swaybar needs to be removed. Er wait, what car were you planning on doing this in? An FC? Yeah, what he said. It also weighs anywhere from 75 to 100LBS+ more than a 13B depending on which mods you use.

Yeh its an Fc T2

I've seen a few Pics of them Fitted to T2's but i've never seen or heard one go.

I'm well into Drag racing and i also do a few Track days, if i fit a 20b will it help or hinder me?

Out of intrest what sort of times and power have 20b cars produced?

Thanks

Just call it a little 1.3 liter four banger. It's 100% accurate in that it's actually 1308cc rounded to 1.3 and has four spark plugs. You could call a 20B a 1.9 or 2.0 liter six. 'Course no V6 or inline 6 I've ever heard sounds like a 20B.

Well, if your goal is only 400RWHP it would be alot cheaper to do a 13BT. Hell you would have enough left over to get an extra 13B for when the current one goes and probably have money left over

Well, if you do alot of road racing or auto-x-ing i would stay where you are..

But if you like drag racing, and it is something you drive on the street, it is pretty fun..

Since you have 400rwhp i will assume you have ecu and everything else

So what won't work:
Stock/Bolt-in radiator & fan/shroud
Downpipe
swaybar
ecu harness
IC piping/TB adapter

You will also need motor mounts

Now you can sell alot of the stuff you have off and probably do the swap for pretty cheap. Assuming you can do the work yourself.

The big question is will it mess my handling up?

I can uprate the ft spring rates etc but at the end of the day its a good match for most modded FD's (Handling) and i dont want them to get one over on me

Well, I don't have any experiance with the handeling. (no one here REALLY, does yet)

j9fc3s probably has the most driving experiance. But i don't believe he has a sway bar yet, and without taking it to the track it would be hard to say.

With either a new sway bar, or new spring rates on the front so you don't need a sway bar, it will probably have little effect.

There are more options too if you want a better balanced car. you could use a T56 trans and make new engine mounts and mount the engine back further. this will allow you to keep the sway bar and get a better balance with the car.

T56? Sorry im in the UK so i'm not very up on your makes and modles.

I have just finished next years engine which i'll be fitting over winter then starting my next one so its looking like a Triple.

Ok one more question, I have just been reading about Mats first gen on the Hitman site. Hes had a Triple built from a 13b and a few extra goodies. He says this makes the Triple alot lighter. Would this be a good way to go as parts for 20b are geting rare and this does seem a good way to go?

Well, matt's engine isn't exactly proven as far as i am conserned (i could be wrong though), but sounds like a cool solution.

As far as T56, it is a 6 speed manual trans we have over here that is shorter then the RX-7 trans.. it will mount up about perfect (shifter) when moving the engine back about 6-7 inches.. and it can also be built for alot of torque. I believe it came in the mustang originally.

i probably have about 2k miles on the 20b, and i'm not really sure how to describe the handling. i do not have a front swaybar yet. it is different than a normal fc, but it doesn't seem to be a lot more than feeling different, so far. it hasn't been out on the track or up in the hills much yet

I like the Looks of Hitmans car as the engine is alot lighter and is'nt as long as a 20b.

I know its not proven but has anyone done or seen one a Triple mod on a 13b engine?

Thanks.

I have not seen one.. One question i have is if anyone knows if it is a single peice E-shaft.. I think that a single peice e-saft (if possible) would be a benefit..

To be honist i dont know but i will look into it.

He has a good reputation for good quality engine componants, So if the Kit is'nt stupid price i'll proberly go with his kit?

He has sent me a basic price list for the Mods only and its not that bad but we'll see what the Parts prices are like.
