120psi oil pressure at idle

Hi I have just finished putting a 20b into my car and when I started it I noticed the oil pressure problem. Im using a 100 psi auto meter mechanical gauge that is taped off the oil cooler line near the front cover(not sure if measuring the pressure from here could be part of the problem). Before I started it I cranked it over and got around 60 psi of pressure while cranking. I then put the injector and ignition fuses in and started it. I looked at the oil pressure gauge and it showed what looked like zero pressure ahh so turned the car off. I check everything and gave it another try this time watch the gauge. It quickly climbed past 100psi doing a full lap of the gauge just before the zero marker which I guess would be about 120 psi. I then rung the rotor shop I got the motor from and they said to warm it up and give it a few revs and see if it settles. Once warm it was showing 100psi at about 1800 revs, gave it a rev and the gauge kept going past the zero point and broke.
Im using the exact same oil and filter that i use on my 13bt without any problems.

Any ideas what could cause this?

thanks

Its common for your oil pressure to be high when you initially start the engine. My oil pressure is usually 110 psi at start up and drops to 50psi when at operating temp of 180f.

You shoule get an oil pressure gauge that goes above 100psi, your going to need it.

Ok thats good to know, need a new gauge now anyway. Do you think its ok plumbed near the timing cover or is it better after the oil cooler? Thanks

I like to know what the ENGINE is getting not what the oil cooler is getting. If you loose a hose downstream of the gauge you will not know it. If you look at the pressure the closes you can to the engine you know there is oil pressure closer to the engine.

you need to be reading oil pressure at the rear iron, or at the rear oil line banjo bolt. Pressure is always higher at the front cover.

Yea I have a modified oil system on my 9K+ redline HBP and oil pressure at idle is around 50-60psi and at 9,500rpms it is 160psi
