Is your flywheel this [ ] close to your tranny???
As you guys know I previously broke my 5th gear. Then I got that AL flywheel. So I had an extra tranny laying around tried to do all at the same time.
Turned out that when I installed the AL flywheel I needed spacers and the FW was a 215mm and not a 225mm. So, not having the $ for the clutch kit. I put back the stock FW and just replaced the tranny.
Heres where the problem occured. I finished filling the tranny and all under the car and last went to put in the rubber plug that goes into the bottom of the bell housing of the tranny. So I go to plug it and the flywheel is like RIGHT there....so the plug didnt go in all the way. Then i stuck my finger in the hole to see if the flywheel had clearance of the bell housing....it did but like [ ] much.
I start the car and rev it a lil and i hear like a whining/grinding like something is rubbing somewhere, but not alot...
Could it be the flywheel???? And why?
I've, had an SE, GS, and 83 w/o that hole in the botom of the bell housing. Never had this problem.
ANYONE??? Help !

love the braaaap
All 1st gen tranny bellhousings are the same size to my knowledge. Also, the overall diameter of the flywheels are the same between 215mm and 225mm. Its the clutch surface thats different in diameter.

thanks guys. I think its the throw out bearing. OH WELL !
Still making that noise. Just hope its not the engine. Can anything go wrong with the engine from R&R of the flywheel? If not then yea for sure its just the clutch components.
Thanks.

are your dowel pins all lined up and in the block? do you have any gaps tween the engine, and tranny? I know it sounds stupid, but I have seen a guy with the same problem, on a FC and the dowells tween the tranny, and the engine hadn't lined up right, and as a result the tranny wasn't mated to the engine properly (even though the bolts were tight.
