young and dumb

it has been said that a good machine shop can make anything,

therefore why would it be sooooooo hard to make a larger displacement 2 rotor motor.

larger, wider, housings with larger rotors= higer displacement.

i understand this is VERY complicated task, but while they are at it, they could machine everything from aluminum and save alot of weight.

why has mazda never made a "larger" engine?

ok im done!!!!!!!!!!!

cause you dont need any larger.

already 1.3L engines are getting 500,600, 800hp numbers.

why would you need more?

useing all aluminim wouldnt be great as it would lower the thermal efficiency, the rotary already has a low efficentcy, so thats no good at all

it can be done just $$$

Alumilum housings and side plates would be a good idea though - if properly chromed/ceramic plated.

Don't take offence, but you haven't thought this through well. Making the equipment for high volume production of rotary engine parts are not cheap. And making one of a kind rotary parts is DEFINITELY not cheap or even remotely cost effective. And as someone pointed out, you can get 600hp from a 13b cheaper then casting, machining, and only possibly working 5.0L?(whatever you want displacement) from a 1 or 2 or whatever number rotor engine. Not to mention custom apex seals, stationary gears, etc, etc etc. Did I mention etc?

With that amount of money you could afford to somehow build a 13b with 600hp you could drive everyday I bet. Probably a bunch of them.

Of course, aluminum is even better than alumilum...

i was contemplating the benefits of a 8 rotor with rotors half as wide as a 10a

They have but the engine's never made it into production. There was a 15A and even a 21A twin-rotor engine.

Yes....

*agent smith voice*

I've had my.. eye on those, for some time now.

Only notice the price tag.... sigh, some day when i'm rich i'll build a turbo engine with a street port of those plates.

i read a book all about the wankel rotary engine, with all of the trouble that wankel went through to make his first engine, and all of the **** NSU went through i dont think anybody will be trying to re-invent the basic concept anytime soon.

it is too bad though that mazda does not sell the 4 rotor engine they won Le Mans with in '91.

Yeah.. I was thinking the housings were already aluminum, but the side plates were cast iron... Is this not the case?

You've lost your "Master of Space & Time" status, go back to "Exhaust Leak".
