Question Yet another blow-through thread...

Well, I'm considering jumping on the blow-through turbo 12a bandwagon! Heh, I realized I have a boost controller, a/f and boost guages, an intercooler, a turbo (mitsu td04) that arnt being put to good use, so I figured, I might as well give it a shot. Now for all the questions... First off, I plan on running a minimal amount of boost (7psi or so), so should the small mitsu turbo be good for the job? My plan was to use a weber side draft, what size would you suggest, and where is a good place to find one? Also, where can I find a carb bonnet for a decent price? hmmm, I guess thats all I have to ask, another thing, I have about 1500$ to spend on such a project, and I already have the turbo and intercooler, and the guages and whatnot.. thanks

I've searched, I've read, and all that good mess. It doesnt answer my question, will the mitsu turbo suffice? Hmm, I did see the carb bonnet on the site moremazda sugested. Also, I asked where I might go about finding a weber package for a decent price. The mazdatrix weber is about 805$ I beleive.

The Td04 seems a bit on the small side..... not to say it wouldn't work, but you'd be choking the engine quite a bit, so you may not get the gains that you'd expect. I'm not 100% on this, cause I don't know mitsu turbos very well.

It does look a bit small.... The turbo is actually off of a 91 volvo 740 turbo. It has 2.3l 4cyl. It pushes about 160hp at 7psi i believe. That said, the mitsu might be a bit on the small side, considering I'm looking to have about 220hp (on a sp 12a that is). I'll drop 680rwhp a line, and see what he says. Thanks for the help!

Look around on some hot rod VW websites for a carb hat. There are turbo kits for the VW bugs and the common VW engine that commonly use Weber carbs and they need to have bonnets too . Or, just be like Ryan and make your own

160hp @7psi , that SP (street port I'm assuming) 12a puts out more than that...... @ 0psi.

The thing I'd be conserned with is the A/R ratio of the turbine. Mitsu turbos in general have somewhat small A/R ratios, compound that by throwing it on a rotary, and you end up with a turbo that spools a 2k, but craps out at 5-6k.
