Is this worth it?

I have the chance to get this RX-7 for free (give or take a few bucks). Just from looking at it, would it be worth it? If I had a budget of 1-2k, would it be worth fixing up? Or should I put a couple grand to another car (Miata, Porsche 944, Integra)?

You can part it out for more than free.

Totally worth it. Preserved in that desert sand, you have a diamond in the rough.

I don't see a spot of rust on that sucker. And is that a glass sun roof?

The IMSA/GTU sticker itself is worth the price of admission.

An absolute barn find in my humble but expert opinion.

Sweet! It is just down the road from me (I am just north of Los Angeles), so it isn't like it is super far away.

I doubt it runs but I love RX-7s so this was exciting for me to have the oppurtunity to find.

Because I am in the desert, there isn't any rust, like you said. The interior is sunrotted because it has sat there for... I would say a decade, the tags are '07.

Thanks for the reply. I will look into it!

Cool find, I'm sure the tires are flat, but I love how it looks like it's partially buried in the sand.

Baked interiors are much easier to replace than rusted and rotted bodies.

When you purchase your replacement interior parts be sure to look for vehicles from the northern states, they have the nice interiors with the rotted bodies.

The southern cars have the rustless bodies with the bake interiors.

Let us know how it goes!

Those wheels alone would bring a pretty penny. They look perfect. Fix this thing up, but in the preserved condition it's in I would definitely keep it stock.

How many miles on it?

I had about 20 minutes with the car, and I was too excited to remember what to look for, I messed with everything and later realized I didn't look at the gauges enough to remember the milage. The pictures I took don't show it either...

I was thinking of leaving it unpainted, actually. Maybe have it look raw and beat up, but the interior and under the hood is clean. The interior is shot so I thought I would gut it and throw racing seats in it. Then bolt on a group c kit and leave that unpainted. I think it would be so cool to be a "simi-sleeper" in that the exterior would look ratty but it would be a killer with performance. Is this worth it?-image.jpg

A group c kit makes it look like a group c car. You loose the sleeper effect. Sleeper would mean keeping it stock outside.

Yeah, and I understand that. I said "simi-sleeper" because it would still be modded, but look ratty and everyday people wouldn't look twice. Maybe to a car guy it would be cool, but I want it to look like a beater outside. Unfinished in a way.
