85 GSL - 12a - Nikki carb - RB exhaust. I have drained the fuel tank, clean fuel no debris, new aftermarket fuel pump, new fuel filter, new coils. Will start cold with choke and "now" idling so, so. (Before it idled better). I will run it it until it warms up, turn it off, then it won't restart. I do have a fuel pump cut off switch. I can hear the pump running when selected to on..(can't hear anything else, like my wife telling me to empty the trash). It has had a problem recently with running and driving just fine, then out of nowhere, it starts to run like crap (kind of like trying to run a warm engine with the choke on)..sometimes I can "pedal" the gas to get it home and other times it dies. I can let it sit for an hour or so, then it starts right up. The carb is relatively new (rebuilt carb by National Carburetors). As usual, any insight, recommendations, suggestions, tell me I am an idiot and give me possible repairs would be much appreciated. Mike

 

I'd check the fuel pressure during the no start condition. The pump might be getting hot.

 

Or the ignitor(s) are failing. When they get hot they can act like this when failing.
