Winter Thoughts

There was a time when my '83 was my daily driver. Bought it new in the fall of 1982. It was my only car which is quite a concept now for me. When the weather turned, I put 4 studded snow tires on and used to drive it up skiing almost every week. I even took it over Loveland Pass regularly to avoid the tunnel traffic. This continued for almost 6 years.

Now I am hesitant to drive it in anything other than perfect weather so from about the end of October until May, it sits in one of my garage bays being started intermiittently. I suppose that I've just turned into a protective old wimp and have come to rely soley on AWD to make it through the cold, snowy months.

Way I look at it....after surviving this long she deserves a break from being a "regular" car...so nothing wrong with a little pampering and protection.

I just had the thought this morning that I might drive the seven to work today. Got out the phone, checked the weather... chance of rain later this afternoon and all weekend.

Went outside and started the truck.

Maybe I'll drive it next week. I hope so, because I'm really itching to be in that seat with that big wheel in front of me.

I did the same thing. Bought my 80 used in 83 and daily drove it intil 1989 and most
of it in Pittsburgh PA. From 90 to 07 it only came out during the nice weather in
Pittsburgh (very rare). In 07 I moved to Charlotte and now it gets to come out and
play any day I want as long as its not precipitating. Been garaged since 90 as well.

Same here....

Now we don't have a "normal" winter this year. Too warm for the season and no snow, only rain. Hesitating every weekend.....should i start here up or.....
And i drive away in my stationwagon

Your car has evolved into more of a toy now than just a daily mode of transport. Nothing wrong with a little pampering and special treatment.

Car deserves it. After harsh Colorado winters I'm sure it appreciates being well taken care of in a nice garage. Just make sure you bring her out in nice weather to allow her some vanity.

Pretty much the same here; She's served her working time and deserves a long, comfortable semi-retirement. I hope to have the same situation, some day.

There's also a practical aspect to all this; with parts slowly getting harder to find (especially for those of us stuck under smog compliance) every mile brings closer the day when something that can't be had needs replacing.

I know exactly what ya mean (I dont have smog to worry about, however). I find myself looking for 2 of everything....gonna have another whole RX-7 in parts stockpiled I am afraid....

The only time I don't drive mine is the winter. I can just imagine my heartbreak when I feel like I'm the next Solberg and put her sideways into a telephone pole. Once the snow goes away so does the Slowfire and Nikki comes out to play until it snows again. I usualy get 8 or 9 months out of her unless something is broken or I'm doing another upgrade.

You are so right! Just had to replace the shutter valve and the replacement cost was $100! I've also found a couple of NOS window regulators which I am hording since those guys have a habit of crapping out.
