Hatch Leak

Alright guys, Texas boy chiming in here. For as little rain we've had all year here I have only just recently noticed that my hatch is leaking water, not alot, maybe a quart. It all settles out in the spare tire storage at the back. Anyone else have or had a similar problem? I've got a feeling it might be the machine bolts I'm using to secure the hatch struts to the glass, but I did seal those with orings when I put them in. Before anyone asks, I got the car without the big black rings on the hatch, if anyone has some spare with the gaskets they'd like to sell me then shoot me a pm.

Best way to find the leak is to get somebody outside with a running water hose (with hatch closed of course) while you are in the hatch looking to see where its coming in. First place to look would be your strut mounts, as you noted....

Check the drain holes in the sill....near the bottom.

Often they become clogged with debris.

Checked the holes and they were kinda nasty, cleaned them up and hopefully that'll be the fix I need. Is there any purpose to the hoses on the bottom of the drains? ie electronics or what? If not I'll just remove the hoses, if there are then maybe I can swap them out with some new ones in case they are clogged.

Those 2 hoses run down and out below your back bumper and are pretty durable. They serve as sorta a downspout for a gutter to remove water from the hatch channel. My advise would be to blow them out with a blow gun on an air compressor, rather than trying to replace them. Stick the blow gun nozzle to the end and press the trigger, should blow any trash out the other end.....If you can get to the bottom end you can blow cack, but not sure if you can get to it with the bumper on...comes out way in the corners behind the bumper.

Leave'm on....Just get a length of bicycle brake cable and rod it out ever couple of weeks/months (not much rain in TX...plenty in WI). I like the compressed air....might try that myself.

lol dont remove them.....
my hatch leaked like that because of those drain holes were clogged so i got small puddles
lol, on a side note it helped me when i spill minnows in the back...hahaha dont ask but it got rid of the dryed minnow stench....

Yeah, listen to patmac and 83Limited. Better to fix than to buy new, and compressed air is an excellent idea, I just did what patmac did and stuck something down in there to clean it out.
