Will this start a fire?

I have an 85 GS, my cat has been emptied but my heat shields that bolt to the underside of the car are all rusted. If I remove them will it create to much heat against the floor pan and carpet.

I couldn't keep drinks in plastic bottles in the passenger footwell - they had a tendency to explode from heat.

And that's with header AND heat shields

Ive done that before. I parked, got out and smelled something burning, like grass...So I jumped back in my car, started it up, and moved back. I then realized I had started a small brush fire...Oops . Anyway, I stomped it out, and parked in the gravel. So, the moral of the story is, if you go to the county fair, dont park in the grass parking lots .

PS - This was with stock exhaust.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? I knew it got warm, but EXPLODE?
Hell, I've made Acid bombs (Muriatic Acid & Aluminum Foil inside plastic bottles) and they are hard to explode even with the chemical reaction within them.

You must run the **** out of that poor 12A!

aluminum shavings in an envelope with a detonator are not cool...

Nor is dumping nitrogen fertilizer into the fuel tank of a diesel truck
