Exclamation Who's was it? (Wrecked car) Also, how safe are 1st gens in EXTREME wrecks.

I have pics saved from LONG AGO (The pics are dated at 2 yrs ago, April 2003) of a Sunbeam Silver S2. (Mods included CAI, Optima Red top Battery, panasport knockoff wheels. Interior was grey.)

The car is obviously totalled. The pics were taken on the side of a road in a residential area.

Does anyone know who's it is? I'd like to hear the circumstances of the wreck. Speed mainly, and what was hit.

I could post one of the pics, but I don't wanna freak some people out. That being said, If you're squeamish, DO NOT SCROLL DOWN AND READ REPLIES.

I'd like to see pics of other extreme wrecks to see how well the passenger area holds up. It appears that Manntis has taken the pics of his old car, Pamela, down from his website, as I couldn't find them. (Nice new format BTW.)

Again, extreme wrecks. Not as in, "Totalled by insurance company." but unfixable even if you had the time, money, and effort.

I lost control in a curve once. I was doing over 100 when I approached it (on the other side of the line) and noticed 2 cars coming at me. When it hit the brakes, I noticed I had gotten down to about 80 when she started to spin out of control. I hit the 2nd car with the rear end of my seven, spun, and then hit him again with my side, and then ending with a another hit on the front. Let's say this, we had to pick up his driveshaft that was laying in a nearby ditch after the collision. I drove my seven home, although the bent axle made it rough. I'll post pictures hopefully tomorrow.

The pics posted here were removed due to age...
He took the ones on his site down for personal reasons...

I bought my engine from a guy who had his car t-boned pretty severely. He got hit just behind the driver's door, and walked away. I feel these cars have pretty impressive survivability for their age.

this one was not really Extream, Like 50 into a concreet wall. Front took a lot of damage, and is moved over a good bit, it then went around and got the driver rear. Virfighter was the driver and said he was fine after it.

I was doing about 90 and managed to spin my car into a guard rail. I think I scrubbed off about 20-30 mph before I went off the road backwards and into the guard rail (about a 60mph crash). Guard rail helped take some of the impact. A solid wall would have done more damage, or even the incline that I would have went down if the guard rail was not there.

About two years prior to this a full size Dodge Ram rear ended me at about 40mph. The lady didn't break the hatch glass, but due to her bumper being so high she missed mine. So if you take look the whole upper rear end (tail light location) was pulled out and sprayed red.

It was a great ride, although it has seen better days.

Well... this is a little fuzzy 'cause it happened when I was 7, but...

My mom had an '84 GSL and we got hit at a stoplight. We were sitting there and some guy comming in from our right made a left hand tun WAY to fast (police said about 60km/h, or about 40mph) lost control and smacked us.
No injuries, but the car took a lot of cosmetic damage. It was in the shop for the better part of a month.

It's been my experience that these cars take a lot of damage really easy (even at fairly low speed impacts), but that the passenger cabin is VERY strong, especially for it's age.

I'd rather not put it up unless the owner comes forth and says it's okay.

Yep, that was me. I spun the car on I-40 travelling at about 60mph (changed lanes during a light sleet, so sleet build up between lanes + falken azenis tires + too fast for conditions = 7 in the guard rail, luckily didn't hit any other cars.

Here are the pics I took right after the accident (happened to have my camera on me):

I was perfectly fine after the wreck, slight pain my shoulder from where the seat belt had stopped me from moving forward but that was gone in about 10 minutes. The only dangerous thing was my small tool box sitting in the back hatch area that flew backwards and smashed the latch on the back glass.

These are tough little cars given the size, weight, age. You are certainly going to be safer in an SUV but I wouldn't let safety scare anyone away from buying one.

not neccessarily. Hitting another car, maybe. Hitting anything else, SUVs suck in collisions.

And you wear a helmet every time you're in the car right? Otherwise you're more likely to die.

I'd think the ideal setup for a road car would probably be a roll bar behind the seats with swing out side bars for side impacts... And 4 or 6 point harnesses.

Good point, I was mainly referring to the weight and size advantage of most SUV's though.
