lol, I dont know. I wonder if it was ever connected to anything. I have the mushroom sensor, and the one right beside of it. I looked good before I put the oil cooler back on and there is nothing behind there for it to connect to. Its taped in with the other wires unitl it gets to the fender side of the cooler, then it splits off from the other grey wire that goes down to the oil level sensor.

I dont know if this has anything to do with it, but when I started the car after changing the seals, Im getting a very fast "clicking" sound out of the AC unit. Could it have connected to it by chance?

i've never seen an oil pan made like that on an FB.... all that i've seen have the oil temp sender location. i might want to cross reference with an SA...might be an SA engine converted to wrok with teh beehive or just an SA pan...

Im sorry dude, but I dont know what an SA is. The car should be all original, at least that is what I was told when I bought it. Had 72,000 miles on it and the carfax checked out with 3 owners. Of course they could have changed out the pan at some point.

Thanks, so what is a 84? I know its a S3, right? IS it possible that someone changed it out and since my pan did not have the oil temp sensor, it was never connected to begin with?

On mine, the two orange go to the gold thing and the thing beside it in your pic above. I see you have a grey wire going to yours. It looks like the grey with the wire connect would go to your oil level sensor if yours has that, see my pic above. Mine has a white connect similar to yours that goes to the oil pan.

the more i think about it, i wanted to ask you this. does your car have the sub zero starting assist? if so you will have a bottle on the right side of the firewall tucked behind the windshield washer resivour. if not then yo umay have a CA emissions package which deletes the sub zero starting assist and thus would have no need for the oil temp sensor, as this was not used on the CA package. the sub zero starting assist runs off of oil temp and thus the need for the sensor. check on that sub zero tank. if you want a pic let me know.

I do not believe I have that. Yes, the car is from CA so I guess it would have that package. It does have a window sticker on CA emissions on it. I will double check that sub zero bottle at lunch. I appreciate the help.

If I have the CA emissons package, does that mean my car is restricted even more than normal?

nope, that canister is the charcoal canister....it catches gas vapors. the sub zero starting assist would be mounted on the firewall behind the washer resivour. you definatly dont have it and that explains the look of your oil pan and the fact that its missing the oil temp sender. i'll post a pic of the sub zero tank for reference.

perhaps not...does it have any marks on the spade indicating it had been inserted into a conector?

Well, with all the oil that has been flowing down there its pretty dirty. I will look at it closer, but right now, I would say no. I have looked the area over, anywhere it could reach to connect, and I just dont see a place for it. It looks like it would connect to a copper tab, it has its own plastic covering that is very dirty so I think it was its own connection. (Not sure if that made sense)

it made sense. i'd say that since the harnesses were the same for CA emissions and non CA emissions that it can feel free to remain in place with no harm done. since i'm working right now (7p-7a) i will post that pic in the early afternoon once i wake up. forgot to toss it up for you.
