What's happening here
Heres my problem. I have an 85 GSL with a newly built 13b and a 600 holley that I cannot get to run properly. Last night my neighbor finally got the car to sit and iddle for more than 5 minuets. While the car is sitting in neutral it will run up through the revs without any problem but when we took it for a test run it falls on it's face. It will run rup to around 3 grand and then stumble and and start bucking. If i shift befor 3 grand it seems to do fine. Does anyone have an idea as to whats happening and where I should look to fix this. If you need more info please tell me.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Sounds like the fuel pump cannot keepup. You described the typical symptoms where it seems to run up in the revs sitting in neutral but when there's an actual load (i.e. driving) it seems to stumble after some rpm level in all the gears.
Could be jetting or other holley woes but I would check the fuel pump first. Is it a RacingBeat prepared holley ?
I'm not a holley expert by any means, I'm sure others will chime in with more advice. Also do a search for holley. I'm sure others have had problems like this.

what tg said there. RB holley? there are little screws on the side of the float bowl where you can check to make sure your fuel level is good. Unscrew them and rock the car alittle and you should see some gas trickling down the side. If not then you need to readjust the needle and seat on your bowls to rasie the floats up. sounds like the carb just needs some tuning.

No, it's not an RB. I got it from a buddy cheep so I could get the thing going. The jets that were in it had a 62 on them i believe( i didn't see it, neighborgh took them out) and replaced it with an 80 jet out of an 800 holley. Thats when we got it to Idle properly.

that explains it. the metering blocks, squirters, jetting, air horns on the throttle body are modified for the rotary engine. Is it a vaccum secondary or mechanical? I used to run 60, 61, 62 primary jets on my street ported 13B when I had my RB setup. The squirter I had was the racing # 25.

It's vaccum(I know, I f*ucked up) on an RB intake and its been streetported. Will this carb ever work? I just need it to get me back and forth to work till I get a couple of paychecks to buy the right carb for it. Right now I'm not interestd in getting any performance out of it cause I still gotta break in the motor, just getting it to run.
Check the gas level yet? If your gas level is too low in the float bowl then it'll fall on its' face when you're driving it.
Then try checking and see what number squirter you have. They usually come with 28. You should try a 25.
Check the spark plugs and see how they're running. Adjust the mixture that is located on the metering block.
