I see the earlier rims are called waffles. does this newer rim have a name ?

"Plus" or "X" wheels are what I usually see them referred to as.

Those are plus wheels and are the most common wheel found on the FBs.

 

I call them "backup wheels."

they are the plus style aluminum wheels available on the RX-7 from 81-85. they wore a 185/70HR/13 tire from the factory.

 

I love my plus wheels they're beautiful! I wouldn't trade them for any other wheels.
