The rats nest is the mess of hoses that make up the emissions system. removal of the nest simplifies engine operation, cleans up the engine compartment to some degree and is a good building block to perform other mods upon.

Depending where you live.Like us here in FL dont have no inspections/no emissions.

So I would say about 98.% of the first gens you see here do not have a rats nets or smog pump.

I dont run cats either,Yeah it stinks and shoot flames. But I dont have many tail gaters...lol

First reply hit all the salient points, but use the "search in this forum" window at the bottom right hand corner (or thereabouts... ) of the page previous to this to get more info....it's also great to use that window to ask broad questions and have a variety of older posts pop up to choose from that will probably have more info than you can ingest at this point in your new rex life...try it out...

The rat's nest is only PART of the emissions system.

i read posts about removal... and problems running, but is it worth it? someone said it stinks? is it that bad? is it like when someone has a bad cat? i dont want my car smelling like ****, but ive been debating taking that out and getting an eletric fan... to the people who have done it.. is it worth it? ive read a good point about leaving it alone, someone said that if the mazda engineerers spent time and money to put it there, its probably for a reason. i want to hear about daily driving without it, what changes.. blah blah blah.. is it going to destroy my brand new cat? stuff like that. i already took off the air pump

My car had a vacuum leak that was hard to trace. killing the nest has made that problem go away - I now idle smooth as silk (smoother since doing DLIDFIS. My car isn't stinky and works just dandy
