As has already been said: You have a pace setter.
RE headers are equal leangth, almost identical to RB but the top flange is 2 piece.

I'm with Andrew. Sell the Pacesetter and get the RB. If you sell your headers on Ebay, there is a good chance you'll get decent coin for them. Most E-bay bidders don't know the difference.

I am not so convinced that equal length is necessary, or even desirable.

Yeah, I'm already trying to scrounge up some $$ for the RB headers. I figured if I'm doing it I'm going to do it right the first time. I'll sell the old ones for a little cash.

I've got a set of 16" wheels that i'll probably sell too. They've never been mounted. I"ve got some other odds and ends I'll probably get rid of. I'd just really rather have the RB ones.

Anyone want to buy some wheels? I'll let them go CHEAP!!!! I know they don't fit the Rx7 but many of us have second vehicles!! They are 16X7 4X100 or 4X115 with 38mm offset.

(I'm too poor to buy the tires, and I've abandoned all other projects due to the rx7. I originally bought the wheels for my '96 Toyota)

IM SO SICK AND TIRED OF PEOPLE THINKING RACING BEAT HEADERS ARE THE S**T. The guys at Mindtrain have been around almost as long as the Rx-7. If something goes wrong with your order they take care of it right then and there, they even ship stuff out when they say they will!!!. Also depending on the stage of the header you order it WILL BOLT UP TO THE STOCK CAT!. No need to spend more money on a pre-silencer if your car still needs to pass emmisions. The quality is the same as R.B. and could even be better!. So if any of you other guys have Mindtrain Exhaust products or have in the past, please post your opion.

best advice i've heard all thread.

Who cares what headers they are not like its gonna make a difference with a STOCK 12a MOTOR.

I say hope fully you haven't taken everything else off.

Bore out that peice that you were talking about and hook it up. Boom, straight pipe right there, or spend like $50 at a muffler shop and have him weld 2 1/4 DUAL piping to a flange then to a "Y" connector to you muffler (make sure the "y" connector is fat so it dosnet choke there. Boom, STRAIGHT PIPE DUALS !

Either way $189 for rb headers you'll still have to get a presilencer $140 then that stock unit before the muffler IF YOU STILL HAVE IT.

so think about it $330 + gaskets for RB setup, or

$50 bucks for DUAL STRAIGHT PIPE setup.......

down fall Dual Setup - might be a little loud

down fall RB setup - too much $$$ / dB will probably be almost as loud.

Actually the headers do make a big difference for a stock engine. The exhaust is the main restriction on practically *any* rotary.

So to compare these two headers for my scenario, what am I going to have to buy for each to successfully mount them up with an otherwise stock exhaust setup?

Racing beat - I'm going to need the collector and a pre-silencer correct?

Mindtrain - Just a y-pipe or collector or whatever you want to call it? On the link that was posted above it says for the 79-85 Mindtrain header you will need a presilencer AND a y-pipe. It also says they are sold separately, but I couldn't find them anywhere on the site.

So I guess my question is,

What is my total cost going to be for each brand to use it with a stock exhaust? I'm going to go with whatever will successfully mount to my stock exhaust. Thanks..

I have had both the Pacesetter and the Racing Beat headers. Both work much better than the stock shoebox manifold. The Racing Beat unit is almost equal length but not quite. It is so small an error though that you won't see it unless you really measure it thoroughly. The Pacesetter pipe length diffeence is almost 8". The collector on the Pacesetter is also pretty bad. However for $189 header it is the ****! The Racing Beat system is much better constructed with a better collector. It is also twice the price by the time it is all said and done. Unfortunately the performance difference is not twice as good. It is good for maybe a few extra ponies but nothing impressive. I loved the power from both the Pacesetter and the Racing Beat headers. In the end I custom built my own and have superior results. The biggest performance secret is in the collector and how smooth it is. My best friend has the Mind Train system on his GSL-SE. It is a little loud but has a very nice power range. The system was purchased in the late '80's and is only now rusting out. The car was originally an all season car in Ohio but now it is here in Houston. That is a pretty good life span for a product that isn't stainless steel. Save your money and do other performance upgrades. The aluminum flywheel was the next biggest performance upgrade that I could tell on a nonturbo car. Acceleration is much faster. I personally don't have a hard time street driving it either. Anyways, spend your money elsewhere. You already have a header and unless you just want to spend a couple of hundred dollars for only a couple of horsepower, you could be getting better results elsewhere.

Oh damn! Mindtrain has a header for as low as $179! For that price there is no room for the Pacesetter unless you already have one. I'd favor theirs over the RB unit too! Even the RB units are cheap there. How the hell do they do that?! Everyone, go shop there!!!

The stock Pacesetter has been dyno tested to lose 10hp over the stock exhaust manifold. Food for thought.

Like I said, I had the Pacesetter. It definitely does NOT lose power. The gain is actually quite nice over stock.
