I don't understand. You found the FAQ, and it mentioned this ignition mod, but you didn't follow the link that would explain it all to you? Go back and look again and you should be able to find all of the info on it. Otherwise, the search function will provide a couple of weeks worth of reading on it. If I had the time, I would be happy to write you a full explanation on the system. But that work has already been done so there is no need. Post back if you have trouble finding it. Welcome to the forum...

DLIDFIS = Dual Leading Ignitor Direct Fire Ignition System. What it is is adding a 2nd coil to the leading ignition. That way you have two leading coils (one directly connected to each leading spark plug). THis way the leading spark doesn't have to go through the distributor cap. Also, since both leading plugs will now fire together, you get an additional leading spark (180° later, sometimes called "late leading"). This can help with emissions and maybe aq bit with MPG. For this, you only need an extra ignitior, an extra coil, a way to mount the extra coil/ignitor, and wire/connectors. It is a pretty easy upgrade.

The are other options too. One is called 2GCDFIS (2nd Gen Coil Direct Fire Ignition System). This is a bit easier to do than the DLIDFIS, I think. You use a 2nd gen coil in oplace of the 2 1st gen coils. Also, you do not need and extra ignitor. There are other options as well including MSD and one that I am working on called "transistor trick". The "transistor trick" setup is like 2GCDFIS, but it lets you use the 2nd gen ignitor (much better than the 1st gen ignitor). Uses a circuit to convert the signal.

So there are a lot of options. The best/easiest depends on what you already have available. I like the 2nd gen coil myself ("transistor trick" or not). Seems to be easier to mount and more self-contained.

Yes, the "transistor trick" works pretty nicely. Good performance gains and easy to install. There is a huge thread about it. It may take a few days to read and may be hard to understand, but you can send me a pm if you have any questions with it or the other setups. The only problem that we have had with the "transistor trick" setup is that the 2nd gen pack gets too hot. We are going to try adding a resistor and that should clear up the problem. I am also working on a better version. I am trying to add the ability to have the full 2nd gen ignition to be able to work on our cars.

The regular 2GCDFIS works fine too. There are a couple threads on how to do it. If you go this route, ask me about it. The threads tell you to cut out the 2nd gen ignitor, but if you do that, you can't do the "transistor trick" or a full 2nd gen ignition without buying another coil later. I have a way of doing it without cutting the ignitor.
