Water pump won't come off!

I've got everything off and the water pump should slide off of the four bolts, but it wont. (It's a 12A engine).

It looks like the water pump is rusted to the housing and it's trying to take the whole housing off when I try and pull on it. Have I forgotten to take something off? I have a Haynes manual and I've followed EVERY step exactly.

Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.

That worked! Thanks a ton!

Now...

The pump is off, but I'm trying (without much success) to get the remaining bits of gasket off of the housing. Do any of you know a quick way to remove the rest of the gasket??

Thanks!

A can of gasket remover, a putty knife, and some sand paper. Take your time and do it right on all the sealing surfaces, including the housing to block surface. No sense in getting that far in to just let it leak again .

EDIT: FYI, a rubber mallet works just as good as a hammer, and is a little less damaging .
