Hey, I remember writing this one. And what do you know, an update- This engine is still working great! I had to take it apart once in 2003 for a cracked rear endplate, whoops! Don't go past 15PSI at anytime with this setup! I'm still using apex seals that have probably 70,000miles that have been staying in perfect condition due to pre-mixing since the last time it was apart in '03. I never had apex seals with so little material loss, which is good since thick strong seals are necessary for the boost I give it.
But the engine- has remained together in its current state since SEPTEMBER 2003->March 2005 and counting!!! I'm taking it out of storage in April, and not driving it hardly ever- ONLY because of $2.35 for premium unleaded. I'd love to drive more, but fuel is not cheap enough due to China and their stupid booming economy (due to all the products they sell to Walmart custumers and other outlets giving them tons of American money to spend on fuel) driving fuel prices up for the rest of the world. Don't get me started about stupid Arabia and OPEC.
In short: DON'T buy products made in CHINA EVER anymore!!! I realize that is difficult, but it hurts our fuel supply in the long run. Secondly- Lets invade Suidie Arabia and fix this "oil problem".

ALSO, I had to replace the 12a tranny twice now, and the last time, it was not drivable afterward and had to tow it with the rear wheels off the ground! However, the cost of rebuilding them verses another used one has still turned out to be a LOT cheaper. ANd converting to a TII tranny, I still need more ambition I guess.

WackyRotary, just a thought, not intended to bring up an argment of any sort. US is the only important nation that ignore the Kyoto protocal due to large consumption on energy, what does it imply? who is the one to criticize? For oil price go ask Bush or your hated OPEC, they own it, and US just got Iraq, who else did? The nation got best oil deals perhaps in the world, and you should be satisfied, China did nothing in this, people got to live, right? Bring down the value in dollar is part of the strategy from Bush Admin for this nation's economy. I would suggest people to enjoy good price as much as they can now, since dollar value is bringing down, don't you see counties are not buying more dollars, they are moving to gold. I want to say is that, please do not assume US is the only country in the world, US has neighbors to live with, and I hope the media do not bias people (as they do now) to achieve political goals, people should be friends and like each other.

We should not have free trade with ANY Communist countries, and unless inflation is increased with everyones wages to compensate for increasing fuel costs, we will soon not be able to enjoy cars as we know it anymore. BTW, China has their currency at a fixed exchange rate with the US to keep their goods attractive to US markets even if it hurts their bottom line somewhat. They should have re-valued their currency by now to show reality of their situation, which would drive up the cost of their goods for us, and then we will buy much less.
Back to money- Wages are CLEARLY not matching the increasing fuel costs for most of us with a 21% increase over March 2004 with an average of $1.73 for all grades - March 2005 $2.09, and making turbo driving a extremely costly thing and rotaries in general-or for that matter, anything with <35MPG.
I agree though that auto industry should have done more to increase economy by now with or without Kyoto and sell SUV's that do not consume much fuel. But I don't really feel like having a debate with someone with pretty ultra liberal views. This thread is not about Political crap, its about a Turbo car and the costs associated with making and operating it.

Haha, I have very "neutural" view, perhaps in your way "ultra liberal", since I read news between three countries and I am a free guy just by myself. It is OK that people have different politital view points.
About the exchange rate situation. Hoho, not much longer, they are revaluing, but it will be a surprise for everyone. BTW, Japan control the currency the same way, that's kinda why Bush decide to bring down the dollar value since the world's economy is US centered and US has large amount of debt, if dollar is down then Japan and China are losing money since large amount of their profit is in the form of US debt, also about competitivenes. Again, as an individual, enjoy price as much as you can now.
Now get back to the point, this thread is about the sweet Turbo FB setup, another thought, you know we are so lucky to be in US, so we can mod and enjoy our Rx7, in Japan engine most likely need to be replaced in 5 years for emission, and any tinkering with a car would render it useless on the street in China, did I mention a car is totaled by law when it hits the 200000kilo mark?
Where are you in MN? I have visited your website before and really impressed about your setup, I would want to see your car in person, let me know if it's possible sometime, or should we organize a meet of some sort?

Started as a great thread but lost its way. The US dollar is falling because the US can not pay its debts, if only it used fuel at the same per capita rate of China world fuel prices would be halved. But then I am biased driving a fuel guzzling GM product in China.
However the thread is really worthy of being archived as it contains good technical advice. Congratulations WackyRotary.

This thread again!!! LOL!!! Yeah, I actually was running it n/a-with headers from like August-till-12/22/05!! -but was not drivin that entire time-don't drive it in winter MN salt/slush. I have a FC for winter!
The timing of this coming up again is pretty good though-> I put the turbo setup back on the FB- and it has the 2gen coil direct fire- that seems to really help power, and I had a small k/n air filter before, now a large cone-filter for better breathing. Also, I had been using a stupid "fart cannon" type muffler, but now I made an adaptor to connect to a 12a powerpulse muffler. Very quiet and has decent turbo power. NOT as good as without it, but I enjoy it this way for quiet living in a metro area most of the time.
Running the turbo just gives a person a little ego on the road! LOL
