Valvoline's DuraBlend ?
I know there have been many long, hard discussions here on conventional vs synthetic motor oil, but I wanted to know if anyone is using the Durablend by Valvoline. As you know its a mix of conventional and synthetic motor oil. I currently have it in my 84 but was thinking about changing to the Castro many on here are using.
Anyone have the good, bad, ugly on this oil?
Thanks, Rb

With a blend of conventional and synthetic oils, you get the worst attributes of each type of oil. Go all or nothing. Royal Purple is great in a rotary as is Mobil1. I've used a lot of Castrol GTX 20/50 too.
Whenever I've used DuraBlend in a piston motor (V6 Isuzu and Inline3 Geo Metro) the motor's valve train noise was louder than when I use pure synthetic. And didn't last as long either.
You get what you pay for really.

I am using Royal Purple 20w50 as well. Seems to work well. I buy it in 5 gallon pails from a guy who works for royal purple and sells industrial lubricating oils to us (Dow Chemical). I get the oil for less than $4 a quart this way.

I live in the Smoky Mountains of NC where the winter temps are often in the teens at night and 30's-40's during the days, should I go with a 10-40 during the winter and a 20-50 in Summer? Summer temps are usually in the 80's.
How much does Royal Purple run a Autozone or Advance? I hate to pay 5 bucks a quart.
