Oil Pressure :-)/Frozen Brake Caliper :-(

Well, I finally got around to doing an oil change (It had about 2200 miles on the oil when I bought the car... I put 600 more on, so I figured 2800 was overdue, and I was doing my Mom's truck/sister's car/my other car anyway... so, I put in a mobil 1 filter (use those exclusively, haven't had a problem yet), and some Valvoline 10w30 Durablend (which is a semi-synth for those who didn't know...), and my oil pressure is now at 65-70 range at WOT/4000+ RPM, and at 30 or so at idle... before the change (and it did have enough oil in it, I check it daily) I was at 20 or so idle and 50-55 at WOT. I'm not sure if the old filter was failing and allowing backflow or what, but its a LOT happier now.

I also pulled my A/C and it's related CRAP off, and somehow the idle is now perfect... Don't know why... but I'm not complaining.

I also decided to do the brakes while I was at it, as they'd been pulsing a bit. Checked the fronts, and the pads are quite literally almost new, can't be more then 2K miles on them... the drivers rear though... was totally gone, with 1 mm of metal on rotor action. I grabbed a clamp to back the caliper off (same way I've done 5-10 other cars) and no luck. wouldn't budge a mm. Finally I gave up on that, and removed it from the car, and put it in my bench vise. Still no movement... looks like I've got a bad caliper. Anyone have any extra single piston/4 lug calipers lyin' around?

Does anyone have any better ideas on why my oil pressure was low/is so high now? That still has me cornfus-ed...

The rear pistons in the calipers have to be screwed in. The fronts can be clamped.

Yeah, get a big screwdriver and just screw them back in.

Alright, got it put back together, everything is working great now. Heh, I can actually hit the brakes from high speed, and the car doesn't shake like mad (as it did with my totally junked older brake pads).

Thanks for the help!

HAHA!!! I can relater to the caliper incident. I have a '94 olds cutlass supreme, and I was chaning the rear pads and I was almost done when I had to push the piston back in. So... I went out and bought a craftsman steel forged 10" C-clamp and some creatine to get the job done... Ha... WELL, my dad and I both almost had hernias when we looked in my hayne's repair manual (read the whole thing twenty times, but failed to look at the pictures) and all we had to do was screw it back in with a pair of needle nose pliers. As for the clamp... we bent it about 25 degrees... It was a hilarious sight. Dont' worry man, you're not alone!
