Value of a 79?
I've been searching for an hour - I can't seem to find what a 79 rex is worth...
NADA lists the car as worth 4k - I think NADA is smoking somthing.
Here are the details.
79 with sunroof and new paint job (red) Seats are in fantastic condition - interior will clean up nicely - engine and 5spd have about 30k on them. Original rims are in good shape - everything electrical works. Body has 190k on it. Tires are at about 50%
Car starts easily and runs well - no smoking or poor idle.
Everything appears to be stock - emissions system intact.
I'm looking to sell this locally and wanted to know a fair asking price. (highball - lowball)
THANKS!
Patrick.

Whatever the market will bear.
I've seen a nice '79 go for $10k, and another for $7k. I've also seen one go for $800 because the guy just wanted it out of his backyard. Current owner was asked if it was for sale, I told him that if he ever asks for less than $2500 he's an idiot! Worth more like $3500-4000.
Basically, uh, $4k seems low.

wow 4k low? Every 1st gen rx7 Almost every 1st gen rx7 I have seen being sold goes for under 4k unless it was mint. Is there something special about the 79's or has everything that I have been eyeballing been junkers?

There's a lot of no-value cars out there... most of them start with "How do I remove the rat's nest?" posts on an internet forum. Basically ignorance + misguided approach to maintenance = junker.
Another friend just got a car with no engine for $300. If the car had an engine it'd be worth $2500-3000 easy. But it was in a junkyard, and the engine and trans were missing...

I'll clean it up and snap some pictures tomorrow...
Is there really no for sale board on this forum?
Thanks for the advice so far. I only paid 200 bucks for the car because it was donated to a charity lot and they could not get it started (bad starter, flooded engine.)

I got my car 84 gsl with about 140k on it mint leather interior with working engine and tranny for 300 bucks. 1 Owner on the car too. (Gotta love it when an old guy dies and his wife sells his car for dirt cheap because she thinks that its old ) I feel sorry for the old man though he's prob swearing at me from up the heavens. I lost a deal like that though on a 1978 v12 jag. Also all leather interior, the old guy used to polish it every sunday, the car has never seen snow, and when the old guy died, first i went to his wife to tell her sorry for his death and as we chit chat she tells me that she's selling the jag. I asked her how much and she said well the car is pretty old but it looks good. I'll sell it for 1,000 or so. I think that my tongue dropped to the floor when she said that. I couldn't g et the money till the following week though and she sold it to some other guy. I think that was my worst day of my life. I know that i was pissed for about a week. I was inlove with that car.

I purchased my 80 for only $500 but it has a clean title, no salvage.

i got a 79 with 90K miles, perfect interior, everything works, even the AC, yellow, has a lil surface rust starting on 1 of the fenders other then that its straight, for 100 bucks.. STOLE IT
this woman inheritied it from her father who took great care of it, then she thought the trany was toast, but it just ran outa clutch fluid, lol. so i drove off in that bad boy for 100 bucks!!! what a steal, runs like a top!

Post pics PLease get good pics right behind the door & in the fender wells also. This is a problem spot for 1st gens.
I would say $1500 if the car is not rusted is very good. If it is rusted i wouldnt even pay that.
For a clean 1st gen i would pay up to $4K maybe more if it was immaculate.

Whatever you guys suggest as an asking price... with the problems I'm having with the ignition switch - I'm going to sell it as is.

$4k is reasonable if it's in good shape. That car looks nice, but there is a lot of excess paint in the engine compartment. Overspray, and paint on rubber parts and other things that should not be painted. It is like a red flag that screams cheap paint job that might not last 6 months. Clean it up and maybe no one will know, lol. $2500.
