turboing a non turbo...
turboing a non turbo...
i've search this already in the archives, lots of good info but still left me hanging on some questions....
firstly when puttin a turbo on a non-turbo car would you need to upgrade your apex seals or any seals for that matter, or would they be the same thing for a non-turbo as a turbo???
is there some sort of break in time for the boost you get out of a turbo??? i mean i don't want to dump money on a turbo, an intercooler, and an engine rebuild (if needed) just to blow the **** out of my car cause i went to much too soon.....

Apex seals are the same, turbo or non, provided we're talking same series of motor. IIRC SE 13B's and 12As had 3mm seals, all others had 2mm seals.
If you rebuild the motor, you need to break it in whether turbo or not. If you're NOT rebuilding, you don't need to re-break it in. Break-in is mainly to get the seals to wear to the point they are making a good seal. A motor you've been running awhile already is to this point.
Hope that helps.

Stock apex seals are fine for boost, unless you want to double the cost of a rebuild and install the ceramic ones. Waste of money unless you are shooting for insane hp levels.
Break in times will be the same, no boosting during break in works best. Some guys do thier break ins NA, then install the turbo components.
