Supercharging is definitely not becoming obsolete. Far from it. It has it's place just like turbos do. Turbos are not the best thing to use in every situation and neither are superchargers. Ignorance would claim otherwise. Both are compromises in some way. Both are very capable of providing good numbers when done properly. A turbo and a supercharger together adds alot of complexity. Can it be done and work well? Sure it can. Is it going to be easy and worth all the effort? That's where the biggest issue lies. Anyone who wants to try has to decide this for themselves.

At Sevenstock my friend Richard Paul was walking around with his new Axial flow supercharger. It takes less power to spin it over other forms of supercharging and it heats the air up less than other forms of supercharging. That's 2 benefits right there. Yes it does heat the air somewhat but show me a compressor that doesn't. His unit weighs 10 lbs. That's the lightest compressor by far out there. Show me a turbo that weighs that little. Most turbo setups are quite heavy. Yes the other supercharger options out there can weigh quite a bit too but the argument that there is a weight advantage with turbocharging is ignorant. It all depends on the comparison. Maybe, maybe not.

As to someone's comment that the Turbo plus s/c, which the s/c is actually a roots type blower not a s/c, that the setup is rarely used is not true. Aside from the US Armed Forces, who use them 2 stroke detroit diesel extensively in all the larger applications. I would agree that the turbo plus blower setup is two much on a rotary

Supercharger is the correct term wether it's roots, centrifugal or whatever. Even a turbo is technically a supercharger. Blower is the "colloquial" term.

You're the friggin newbie.

Wow....people actually think that "blower" is the technical term.

Read the definition of a supercharger please. and read what REVHEAD posted.

Turbo= Exhaust driven supercharger....blower or huffer is just another word for supercharger. Centrifugal, roots, etc.
