You've taken the driveshaft out right? Put a jack stand under the engine (the rear near the bellhousing, not the oil pan) to support the rear of the engine, leaving a little room to lower the rear of the transmission(an inch or so between the jack stand and engine). You won't get the transmission out of you can't drop the rear a few inches. Put a jack under the transmission to support it, and take all the bellhousing bolts out. Then take the two bolts out of the cross member, and lower the transmission a little to clear the shifter housing. The rear of the engine should now be on the jack stand. Disengage the transmission input shaft from the flywheel. Lower the transmission the rest of the way.

Just take out the four bolts that connect it to the rearend. It'll slide out of the transmission then. Also, don't forget about the wiring that's near where the speedo cable was.

The driveshaft might be seized on there. I found that a rubber mallet convinced it to come loose on my car, with the aide of a screw driver prying at where it connects to the rearend. Don't dent it though! Its hollow and will lead to nasty vibration.
Also, if yours is anything like mine was, the trans will take QUITE a lot of effort to separate from the engine. Just work at it with all kinds of prybars and it will eventually separate.

best way would be to use a jack unbolt the crossmember and let it go down..
there only the crossmember holding the tranny to the car.
dont forget to disconect the clutch slave
im lazy and just unbolt it let it drop just be out of the way
yes take both trans and engine out together its easeyer just take ya time

i just did my clutch and i had to pull the tranny. its real easy. like the other member said disconnect the driveshaft from the back and slide it out. unbolt all the bolts that hold the tranny to the engine. Get a jack and hold the tranny in place while you unbolt the 4 bolts from the bridge to the tranny and the 2 that go to the chassi from the bridge. PULL the tranny as hard as you can back all the way and hint put the shift stick into 3rd gear as it will be easier to pull it out. pull it back and your going to hear it pop back and just bring it down with the jack. hint to put it back use the long bolt that holds the starter engine in place as it makes it extremly easy to put the tranny back into place.

I've never used a jack under the tranny. I use one jack at the rear of the oil pan with a block of wood running all the way across, just behind the steering link. I take the driveshaft loose, slide it forward to clear the pinion flange, and drop it to the ground and slide it out of the tranny. I loosen the long 14mm bolts on the crossmember, then jack the back of the motor up until I'm convinced that the jack is supporting the engine and tranny, not the crossmember.
I then remove the crossmember, set it aside, lower the jack again so the tranny's hanging free under the car. I then get under it, grab the tailshaft with one hand, support the bellhousing with the other, and jiggle the living hell out of it until it slips free of the motor. I can do it alone, but imagine most could to it with a friend - no problem.
That said, don't try it yourself, get squashed dead, and sue me or anything - that's just how I do it.
