which of these mufflers would you use for a presilencer.

This is for a turbo application, full 3 inch with a N1 style at the back.

Which of these mufflers would you use for a presilencer.

what do you think, I leaning toward the summit one.

its cheap and it wont affect my ground clearance
but it says it has a louvered core, im not sure what that means.

Well, I have been told that straight through mufflers wont do **** for your exhaust. If y ou seriously watn to make it quieter, you must use presilncers. the problem with them is they are much more restrictive, so they wont be as effective, but t hey will be much quieter.

THat is NOT from personal experience tho, thats just what ppl told me. So that said, i'd prolly go for the summit one as well, whatever's cheapest.

yeh, i just ordered one. Once I get it and I can see what this "louvered" core looks like and how much space I have on the bottom of the car, i might order a second.

okay, I just found out that the glasspack style muffler has a 2.5 in core, not 3 inch.

damn, that would have worked perfectly, ill see how bad it is when I get it, maybe it will still work.

Even on a turbo car, the fiberglass packing won't last long. But you'll get some decent mufflage from any of those if you repack them with stainless-steel wool.

The louvered core has little cup-like shapes pointing into the flow of the exhaust to scoop it up and divert it away from the tube and into the body of the muffler.

What do you guys think of this as a presilencer? For an N/A 12A, long primary type system.

It's probably fglass, but even after it burns out in 10 minutes, itll still do some quieting.

the ultraflow round is packed with a combination ceramic and fiberglass, it is advertised to handle 1500F
if I place the muffler near the rear axle, on a 3 inch system, wouldnt that be fine. It cant be that hot that far back.

The only presilencers and muffs. I have found to work over a long period is the RB products!! I dont drive on the street anymore but on the race car the only thing that lasts is the Lava packed muffs.....$300-$500. I use the DynoMax stainless muff. 3" in and 3" out. I have to replace it once a year......racing. You also have to remember, if your car bellows flames this will burn it out very fast!!!

i think it's worth giving the 2nd one a shot. remember that the turbo itself has some muffling effects on the exhaust just by being there, so you won't be starting with the same raspy, loud-*** VOLUME as an N/A engine would have. the only thing is it might be too long depending on where you plan to use it ... and i'd recommend aiming for use closer to the engine for any presilencer.

i'd suspect you may have clearance issues with the 1st one (speed bumps, etc.)

the Borla unit is shorter, and looks like it might be a good second choice ... it's just not clear as to what packing it has.

hope this helps.
