Tapping oil drain for TII Swap
I was looking at Johan Schubert's page on his TII swap, and looking at how he tapped his GSL-SE front cover for turbo oil drain and noticed that my GSL-SE front cover looks different.
Johan's page: http://www.rx7.org/jes/
Where should I tap my my front cover for oil drain from the turbo?
PS. Johan's cover is on the left, and mine is on the right and is outlined in red.
Thanks,
Ian

Okay, that answered my question. From what you're saying, I have the wrong front cover, which sucks since i bought it from a member on the boards, i just didn't understand why Johan's was different in design. As far as tapping though, it seems the front cover allows oil to drain straight down through it and into the oil pan making the spot you pointed out acceptable to tap. Is that correct?
Sorry, not only do I want to know where, but why. It will probably help in the long run. haha.
Edit: Now I feel even dumber, after looking at the front of the cover and realizing that there is no mounting location for my mustache bar.
I'm an idiot.

You could use a 12a front cover if you are having a hard time finding a SE one, or are low on funds. It doesn't have the nice convenient spot for the oil drain like the SE cover, but could be made to work...

Thanks for the insight everyone, I worked something out with the individual I bought the wrong cover from on the boards and he is willing to exchange. Thanks Ron, you're the man.
However, can someone explain to me what makes the front cover a better place to tap for an oil return line over say the oil pan for instance?

I believe it needs to drain above the oil level, the oil drain doesn't see much pressure, so if it were below oil it would likely back up into the turbo. The oil pan is too low.
