ok so today i was driving my friend around, and it had ben awhile since my car would not start... and it just died... literaly the battery was dead... so i jumped it and as soon as i pulled off the jump box it died again... so i jump it again , and reved it alittle and it was fine... except one thing... when anything electrical was on teh tach will jump..(ie my brakes, the interior lights, turn signals.ect...) so i get to my rentals house were all my extra parts are, and i pull off the old starter and put a "new" one one tighten everything back on... then i put in a "new" battery. tighten everything... she starts right up.. but im still having the same weird tach problem... but now the tach is all over the place with any kind of load, after about 2,500rpms....what is it? when i had a civic...(yea yea . needless to say."when i had..") when the alt was going my tach would act weird.....should i change it too? im pretty sure i checked all the ground wires... you see i just swapped motors in the 7.. just a stock 12a so no big changes... what should i check... thanks for the help.

Only thing that comes to mind is a possible grounding issue. Make sure you're grounds are good, I think that could cause all of the issues you just stated. Good luck.

Might be your rear ignitor quit, causing the fuel pump to shut down. This takes out the tach, then the fuel pump, which shuts off your car. See if you got some gas coming in when you turn on the key and crank the starter.

PS, you can hot wire the fuel pump to get around this problem, losing your trailing plugs and a little power, but it's just as easy to put in a new used rear ignitor, available on ebay.
