Strut Housing Issue

hi all.
first time posting but been using this forum for
a long time now and it's been incredibly
helpful…thanks to everyone. now i have an
issue with my strut swap.
1) 1979 rx7 first production run (built in 78)
mostly stock/original one owner car that i
picked up a little less then a year ago.
it was time for a suspension and steering refresh so i picked up RB sway bars and ES
bushing for the front and back KYB GR-2 front struts and Excel -G rear plus new ball joints
and tie rods.
i got everything disassemble, cleaned and
painted and was ready to reinstall…to save
time i took the suspension to a machine shop
to have them swap the new struts in.
the strut fits just fine but the new provided
locking cap doesn't fit the housing.
two where provided one is too small and just falls in and the other is too large about the
same size as the housing.
2) has anyone run into this problem…¡ checked
the stamp on the strut and it's the correct one.
could i have a different housing since mine was
made in 78?
does anyone have the specs to the housing so
i can compare with what i have?
thanks (trying to attach pictures)

Do you still have the old caps? If so, try using those. Assuming the struts are the right length they should work fine. Or maybe the hole is too small for the shaft of the new strut?

If it were mine, I would use a die grinder to open up the hole. There may be simpler options though, such as contacting KYB about the correct cap. Good Luck :-)
