Strange Buzzing

Hey guys
I have an 82 7 12a bone stock, 90K original miles and yesterday it started making a strange buzzing noise when I get over 5500 RPMs. Happens in every gear and in neutral always at 5500-7000. Car still pulls fine through the buzz, it just sounds really wierd. It is coming from the drivers side in front somewhere. I haven't had the engine bay open yet and rev the car from there, just wondering if anyone had any ideas if it sound serious or not.

Thanks for any input

If it is coming from the engine bay, check the belts. If you have no air pump, the alt/fan belt is VERY prone to slipping at higher RPM. Even with the AP belt in place, they can slip if not tensioned correctly, or just old.
If it is coming from the dash, the "over-rev" buzzer may be acting up.

Rofl,

They have a factory over rev buzzer, and it's I guess possible that your is out of whack and comming on early. Does it sound like it's comming from the guage cluster? If so that's what it is.

If not, you're going to need to be more specific about where it's comming from and what it sounds like for us to help you.

*edit* rouge wulff is teh.....how you sayyyy....faster than I? *edit*

i got use to mine coming on at 6500rpm's in my other car, cause it was a littl screwwy, then i bought my new one, and it was correct, but i wasnt used to it, so at the autocross, i was driving while the buzzer was on before i realized i WAS actually over revving it. lol.

To my knowledge, all RX7's had a buzzer. None of the cars I have been in had a working buzzer, including mine.

I've never been in an RX-7 that didn't have a working buzzer.

8500RPM, not a peep.......
Considering some of the other stuff I discovered the former owner had done, it wouldn't surprise me if they disabled the damn thing.

Every 7 I have been in had a working buzzer at proper rpm.

I want to be in one that doesn't have a working buzzer so I can rev it to high heaven and not worry because as we all know rotaries can rev forever without doing anything bad! hahaha

Anyway, it definitely sounds like your buzzer is just coming on at the wrong rpm. And I am pretty sure that they all came with a buzzer from the factory.

I was wondering about a buzzing noise I had never heard before. Maybe the rev buzzer all of a sudden decided to start working and at the wrong RPM- I had never heard one before so I don't know what they sound like.

Thanks for the info everyone

Find the buzzer adjuster and tweak it.

Yeah my 7's buzzer doesn't work and the add coolant bell thing kicked the bucket this winter LOL It just came on and start goin faster and faster until it just stopped and hasn't come on since even when the light comes on LOL. Wouldn't mind trying to get the over rev buzzer working though, just to say I have it LOL

The buzzer in my 79 doesnt work either. What RPM is it supposed to come on at? The throttle stuck once and pegged the tach before I could shut it down but I never heard a buzzer.

I think they are supposed to come on at 7000 or at like 6950
