starts then revs on its own

I swapped carberators tonight, ('81/3 - '79) i got everything hooked up, and got the vacum stuff hooked up using the tubing of the rats nest, and no selinoids, i didnt put the idle compensator on,( i even tryed with everything caped but the two ports for the ventelation thing, and it did this)
every time i start it, i have to give it a little gas while cranking, then the engine just goes full throtle.
i have all the vacum lines hooked up as they where on the other engine ('79 stock) except the selinoid on the passenger side of the carb is not connected to anything, I just capped it, I have been reading the haynes all night but cant find anything it might be

any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Make sure the butterflies are closed at idle.

Just close the butterflies when it starts. Mines had the same thing but vice versa. The butterflies were closed all the time.

I havent worked on stock carbs/manifold in ages. but I will give this one a shot. turn the engine off. grab the throttle carble and put the carb on WOT so you can see if the butterlfy on the intake manifold is in closed position. close will result in high idle.

remove the carb and manifold from the engine. remove the 4 butterfly screws. then slide the butterfly out, then the shaft. fill in the holes in the intake manifold with jb weld.
