Question What do you think of this deal?

I'm going to look at a GSL this weekend. If the seller is telling the truth, it sounds like it might be a good deal. Black exterior, grey interior, fully loaded, supposedly runs good & is in good shape. Says it needs an alignment (and sounds like tire balancing), alternator, power windows fixed & hasn't been smogged or registered in a couple of years.

Asking price is $450. What do you guys think? I've got a GS now, same color scheme & everything.

Also, does the GSL have a different bolt pattern for the rims, or is the same 4x110 that I have now?

GSL has the same 4x110 bolt pattern as the GS. The GSL-Se's are the different patterns on 1st gen's.

Sounds like a deal to me (especially if the body and interior are in good shape). Good luck!

You didn't say how many miles, and this is a major determining factor in the quality of the car, including the engine and drivetrain.

With these cars, the engine has a very specific service life before you start to experience problems that will point to the need for an engine overhaul and rebuild. Most of the 82 cars are going to have around 150-170k miles on them, and are getting up there in the expense to keep them running well.

Some things that I would ask the seller (which he may or may not know - and even if he does, he may not want to say...) are:

How many miles driven before you have to add a quart of oil (normal is about 1500-2000, depends on driver)?

Why wasn't it registered? Did it pass emissions testing before it was parked, or parked due to inability to pass testing? (cats aren't cheap, and troubleshooting an engine that won't pass emissions isn't fun.)

How long did he own the car (ask about routine maintenance performed)? If he didn't do any maintenance, you can expect smaller things to be an issue that you'll need to look into repairing.

Most rotorheads realize that keeping your car running well is as much preventative maintenance as reactive maintenance. You just don't wait for parts to fail if you're an enthusiast - you fix them before they fail to prevent getting stuck somewhere.

If you find an enthusiast's car - that's the one to buy. HTH,

Yes, it's an 85. Sorry, thought I'd included that in the info.

I talked to the owner a bit more - she's kind of a bitch. Damn women 7 owners...

The more I talk to her, the more work it sounds like. And I just got mine running well, all I need now is cosmetic ****. Not sure I want to start all over again...

I did find a guy who's got 3 piece 15" Work rims with new Pirelli P700z's with only 1k miles on them, for the same price as the 7... decisions decisions....

Yep, they're for mine. Coming off an '80, which has the same 4x110 bolt pattern.
