Do you have spark at the plugs when trying to start it? Did it run before, but suddenly start having problems? Just curious, because digging into the internals of the dizzy wouldn't be the first thing I'd think of for a non start issue...

previous owner of car swapped engine out of a running car into this one and it wouldnt start anymore, so its an electgronic internal distributor but has no ignitors on the outside.... its awesome, needs a new dizzy + wires for the ignitors etc..... will post pictures in a while
to answer ur question, it has fuel spark and comp but still wont start so i was leading towards a weak spark

I think the early versions of electronic ignition had the ignitors located somewhere else (firewall maybe?). If you are getting spark, then the system is working, so there must be ignitors somewhere, right? It could be that when he installed the dizzy it wasn't lined up correctly, so the timing is way off.

There are many procedures on this forum for setting the timing once the dizzy has been removed, basically finding where TDC is (top dead center). I think there's one in the Archive section with lots of pictures.

On the other hand, it could just be flooded. If you think that's a possibility, then dump a little bit of Seafoam down the carb and try again. That will usually do the trick...

my car had a similar no start problem... i ended up getting a hair dryer and a portable heater and heated up everything in my car... it started after leaving the portable heater in the bonnet for 1 hour...

i still haven't figured it out all the way. but maybe this would help you?

There were only 2 types of dizzys, the 79 with points, electronic after that. The 80 model had J-105 ignitors mounted on the strut tower, iirc. All later ones, the J-109s, were mounted on the dizzy. Since you have fuel and spark, then I'm guessing you have an 80 model, based on the dizzy and spark.

With that being said, I'd start with setting the engine to TDC based on the position of the flywheel, not the timing pulley. Then check to see if the timing pulley was installed correcty, if not, do so, then install dizzy and retime.

If you have spark, and it is firing at the right time (that is a question, isn't it), and you have fuel, then it could just be a flood condition.

See my recommendation in post #9 above concerning the Seafoam. Spend the 8 bucks for a can, because you can use it no matter what....

Search for it online, and order a case. It's worth it in my opinion... In a pinch, you might try something called (something)Chemtool if you have that down under. Can't remember the first part of the name, mayb B12 or something like that.
