84 gs question

Hi guys,

So i finaly got my 84 gs project to my garage and am preparing to start working on it.

to do list includes
engine swap, just for another 12a(working) engine.
new wider wheels with fender flares, will propably do them custome.
painting the rear, and changing the quater glass, and maybe the hatch plus some interior work.

Before i start i plan to prepare, take out, clean and polish up the new engine. which is schedualed for tommorow.
I have seen some engines on here that have nothing on them except the carb, something like this https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...5&postcount=85

has anyone on here done that? What are some chalanges to look forward to?
I really love the look of raw engines like that, and see no reason not to go for it.

So if you have any information on getting that done, please tell me, if not will just go in blind

Oh yeah, that pic you showed is of a downdraft weber setup on a 13b. You can go that route if you don't need emissions. If you dont need emissions, then that is the way to go. Remove all the emissions controls and run either a sterling modified nikki, a weber, or a racing beat holley setup. Put a racing beat exhaust on it and itl scream pretty good. I just pulled out my 12a that had been running a weber 45dcoe and a full racing beat exhaust to build and install a 4 port 13b with the racing beat holley. Good luck with the build, give us more details on the direction you plan on heading and advice will follow.

I just realized that with the link you showed, that guy took the time to run his wires inside the fenders... really neat looking when its done but its a hell of a lot of work.

Thanks, i was actualy thinking of trying to clean it up as much as possable and to keep the original carb.

Just noticed i forgot to ask the main question. Sorry :p

In 84 gs was there any electronics like an amp connected where the bins are?

I know in my 83 gsl there where planty, but in my 83 gs there was nothing. So just wondering if same applies to the 84 year.
I'm trying to restore an 84 gs right now and noticed some minor differances between it and my 83 gsl and gs.

Thanks in advance.

I have an 84 gsl and it has(had really) the amps and wiring under the bins. They were only on the higher models with the upgraded stereo. As for cleaning it up and keeping the stock carb, look up the rats nest removal tutorial (as long as you don't have to pass emissions) and that will get all the junk out of the engine bay.

Ok, thats what i thought, just wanted to make sure.

already read the rats nest removal, was just trying to find out if there was anything else that could be done. Cleaning the engine now, it was so dirty you couldn't even see the 12a mazda signs on it.
