If you go to Mazdatrix http://www.mazdatrix.com/h4579-85.htm
they list stock and several other springs..
But they are 100 front/ 85 rear according to them.

The Maxda specs I have also give 100/85. The difference is bigger than a Gen 2 at 95-90, so what is the reasonimg behind a much greater difference in aftermarket springs?

AFtermarket springs generally try to dial out some of the oversteer that Mazda built in. To make a car understeer more, you stiffen the front end more than the rear, or make the rear end softer.

I was chatting with the local RX-7 guru last night.
He thought the spring rates were different from 79/80, 81/82/83 and 84/85.
Stiffest in the early cars and softest in the later cars. In retrospect he might have only been talking about rear spring rates. Anyway, he used the different rates to tune the handling of a RX7 oval track car he raced.
