idle problem i think?

I finally got my 85 12a to start the problem now is it won't stay running. I have to keep pumping the gas or hold the choke out and keep my foot on the gas or it dies. I've loosened the exhaust and it does the same thing (thought maybe clogged cat). Also as soon as i put it in gear it instantly dies even with my foot on the gas. Any ideas? Thanks, Vic

starving for gas at idle? has it been sitting up...is the air/fuel mix about 3-4 turns out, idle screw below accelerator pump might need turned in a little more, the tps screw behind the thermostat might turn in one more turn,, any vacuum leaks in the small hoses,,,,sorry but it can be one or more things causing it,,,i went thru it all after i got mine from sitting up over three years,,,,,,,,you will find the problem, and all will work out,,,,,finally rebuilt the carb, it was pretty nasty and the fuel filter was clogged as well,,,,are u getting gas if u pull off the fuel line hose to carb,,,,good luck,,,,,,,,

Hi,
I've had the carb rebuilt, It's getting plenty of gas to the carb, clean fuel filter, all new silicone hoses, none kinked, all silonoids are working. I will check the timing and the adjustments you mentioned. any other ideas. Thanks for the input, Vic

1. Check your compression 2. Make sure all spark plug wires hooked up right (front coil is trailing) 3. You say plenty of gas to the carb, how much is plenty? Make sure both float levels, front and rear, are in the middle of the window. If they are low or high it wont work right. Who ever rebuilt the carb, make sure they did the measurements correct. 16 mil with the gasket installed and the springs inside the neadle (upside down to the tip) and 51 right side up (lowest part of float)
