So UHH... i think my motor blew (and i'm away from home!!!) HELP!
Well this friday i drove back down to NJ for a visit, i went down to rutgers and to a huge haloween party (240 miles) then i went down to toms river to see my boy dan (another 50) i sayed there a night and came back up to montclair tonight, (70 miles) so i pull into town and as i pull up to one stoplight, the car starts to make weird *** noises ( i had the radio pretty loud for the hwy crusing, and hadnt turned it down yet so i didnt hear what happened too good.)
anyway, the car has no power, and i'm hearin weird pulsing noises that seem to be coming back through the carb, its dark out and i made it to this house that i'm stayin at, but i think i might have lost a rotor. This really sucks cause it was runnin real nice, and i just had an alignment done, so she's drivin like a dream (plus, i have to get back to NY state (180 miles))...
anybody give me things to do tomorrow to see if it's aight, and/or what happens when you blow a rotor, sounds/symptoms etc.

you can still drive her even w/ 1 rotor.. though sluggish
if you were jst highway cruising, it's really hard to assume that that's the reason why your motor blew. cruising is actually much easier on the motor than stop and go traffic

well i'm only up here in mtc for tomorrow and then to vote on tuesday, the rest of the weekend i was down in So. NJ partying, so i didnt think i'd have much time. Hector if you're not busy, get in contact w/ me and we'll see what's goin on.
allthough now with the car acting a fool, i dunno what i'm gonna do.
i'll check everything tomorrow, i'm ****** beat, i'm on a few hours of sleep since friday morning, so i'm pretty well exhausted.
-Kurt (passed out and yearing for his motor to be okay)

I wouldn't recommend driving it if you find out that you're only on one rotor. If you do, it'll eat up the inside of the blown rotor's combustion chamber and the engine won't be rebuildable without replacing that housing.
To test if you blew the motor, pull out the spark plugs and turn the car over. By hand is fine. You want to be hearing 3 solid, consistant sounds from each rotor. If you're hearing solid "puffs" from each rotor, turn your attention to other things.
Check your spark plugs, fuel filter, make sure you're getting spark on your leading plugs...
Other than that I'm not sure what to check. Hopefully you have CAA Gold, so that you can get the thing towed home for cheap..

I blew a rotor wrapping a 130K 12a to 8K rpm through 3 gears. The car puked grey smoke out the exhaust for about 100 feet and then it was like driving a steam engine.
The motor started and ran, albeit horribly, for many months. I actually was so broke at the time that I drove it every day. It took a good mile to reach 35-40 mph. Talk about embarrassing!
I scrapped the car, but the motor still ran. I got about 4 mpg and I had to floor the pedal everywhere I went.
I am surprised your engine went out while driving normally, and without any sort of smoke or noises prior....
Jon is right. Check the "puffs" coming out of the spark plug holes. When the abovementioned engine died, there was no compression on the dead rotor. Put your finger over the plug hole and the air should push its way past your finger. If not, then you're in trouble.
