Correct? Then I guess my timing is WAY off, cause mine apparently can.

Yes, they can run on trailing only but not very well.

Cool. I have to hold down the gas until the engine can hold some heat on its own, then it pitter-pats at idle. I use "idle" loosely.

Yup I ran my first seven this way for the longest time. Wish I had more brains back then, I wondered why my car was so gutless all of the sudden....

Which is why you need to connect the alarm to both the leading and trailing ignition kill so theives can't get away.

I believe running on trailings only is what caused my motor to seize in my 83. That in combination with running a little on the rich side. temp in the car was fine, oil was fine, good pressure and everything. but the motor is locked solid.

If you run on trailings only, in my experience, get it fixed asap, you might not have a motor after a while.

The cool thing is that while you run like **** on trailing-only, you run like a champ on leading-only (same as if both were working). So the only reason I don't disable my trailing system to clean things up in the engine bay is so that I have extra parts if I need an ignitor, coil, wires, or plugs for my leadings.

Time to do the old switcheroo and replace whatever's wrong with your leading. Just run sans-trailing until you've got the moulah for parts.

Jon

Edit: (sans = french for "without")

I agree. You don't want to run the engine on trailing only for any length of time because the retarded timing causes the mixture to burn more in the exhaust system and the apex springs can also overheat allowing them to flatten. The heat travels through the apex seal and ruins the temper of the spring steel.
