So I got my 82' "Old Blue" two months ago. MOP dumped oil in, so the exhaust got full of oil. Blocked off the MOP, and now I am premixing. Its a good strong feeling large street ported 12a . It had a RB Street Port exhaust, so for a quick fix I cut off the muffler (full of oil)and put a cherry bomb on it... and I have a new found love of tunnels lol.

I have put on almost a 1000 miles in the two months, and I will admit its been babied just a bit because of the smoke... but could it be something more? Should I just take a late night and just heat it up and smoke it all out, or should I take it off and dump brake clean in it and clean it out?

 

i put a rb presilencer on one my girlfriends car that came off my old car that i wrecked, that had a lot of oil in it from the wreck, as soon as i started the car and it got hot it smoked like crazy. i drove it around the neigborhood and it was awful she was scared to drive it so i drove it to work a couple of days trying to get the exshaust as hot as possible like revving it higher for shifts and keeping it in 3rd and 4rth in 45 to 50mph cruising and by the end of the second day all of the smoke had cleared up.

 

Take the exhaust off and throw it in the burn barrel for an hour or two... Then re-pack it and no more smoke (well not an obnoxious amount at least)

 

worst case if it still smokes after the exhaust is cleaned out the oil control rings on one or both rotors could be bad..

 

And I guess if I do it at night I cant look back, and look at it lol. I'll try that for a few nights... see if that works.

That just might have to be done too, I'll try anything at this point.

Shhh don't say such things! That's my fear, and I think it might be it... BUT I am hoping not still.

 

If it is oil control rings, replace a quart of oil with a quart of Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer. Does a very good job of reducing oil consumption. I got an additional 20k on my last 12a after doing this, and it was smoking so bad that it literally could not be driven because it was a hazard due to the "smoke screen".

After adding the Lucas, the only time it would smoke at all was if I took it to the redline, then suddenly let off the gas. Even then, it was just a puff.

Yeah I feel it is the control rings after last nights drive. How often do you do the stabilizer? Is it every time, or just when it act's up?

 

Even on my current motor which does not have issues, I always use a quart of Lucas with every oil change. You can run up to 2 quarts for severe issues.
