smoking

Hey I just got my exhaust on and my car seams to be blowing more oil than normal. Like clouds consistantly. I'm kinda worried. Do I need to rip apart my engine and replace my oil seals pretty soon?

not really. one can run on bad oil seals for quite some time. ask Longduck. he knows i believe. i used to fill 4 lanes with smoke shortly before my 2nd 7's engine went. good times.

True story - when your oil control seals start to go, you'll get blue-tint smoke on startup until the engine gets up to temp.

Once it warms up a bit (usually just to the first mark after C for me), then the smoke goes away. Until then, you're casting a smokescreen that James Bond would be proud of...

The only fix for this is to run heavier weight oil (20w50), or to add engine 'honey' to increase viscosity - this will help to keep the smoking down, but since the engine is consuming oil through injection, you're still going to have problems with smoke.

Best bet - start saving for a rebuild. I'm already at least 2,000 miles from when it first started, and it has a lot more power than it once used to. I'm also gettign 19.5 mpg when I used to average about 17. Maybe the smoke is worth it ???

I thought initial smoke on start-up was completely normal? Or is it more like a little puff* thats normal?

From my understanding a little bit of smoke at start up doesn't mean anything..Mine lets off a 2-3 second burst of smoke the first time it's cranked for the day..
I hope its normal atleast
