If your tail light assy's seals are bad you will smell chicken. You will also smell it if you drive by KFC, if you all got them down there.

You should have smeled my old GSL-SE.

There was a gap between my 2nd and main cats, right under the passenger compartment.

Lol....

Especially bad when I'd fill up at a gas station using ethanol...

Man that stuff burns!

Well, crawl under the car and check for any obvious leaks in the exaust system.

In the case of my car, the exhaust was far to rusted out to bother with repairs. That car is actually my parts car now...

But most exhaust repairs are pretty easy. Any good muffler shop should be able to help you out...

Ha! We tried manifold cooking once with my old Jeep J-10 pick-up at hunting camp..Made 'Yankee Potroast' or something. Triple foil sealed..Sounds weird, but it worked!
Yeah- I've seen that book (or one like it) tells you how long to keep the stuff on the manifold at certain driving speeds etc..It's pretty damn funny!

where can I find the "tail light assy's seals"? and what are they. It can't be the exhaust system because that is all new and I don't think it would be the heater core because its a a series 4 good condishion engine

so i think it may be the tail light assy's seals. does anyone know where they are and what to check for?

thanks

If you pull the taillights off the car, you'll have these two foamy-rubbery gaskets that fit between the light assembly and the body of the car. If those have rotted, or if they're not compressing anymore, or if they've cracked, you should replace them with new ones, as fumes can be sucked in at that spot. Another place you might consider is your hatch. The seals on that are also rubber and will degrade over time. I'm getting a large amount of exhaust in my cabin right now due to really bad hatch seals as well as tailight gaskets.

Mazdatrix has the hatch seals here and at least one of the tail light seals here. I'd be willing to bet that with some looking around you could find a better price. For the taillight assemblies, you could probably even fabricate new ones without too much difficulty.
