my 12a 1985 gs is slow i think,I think i clocked in my 0 to 60 in about 12 seconds. Is there anything cheap i can get to make this car fast?It may be because its a manual and i just got the car so im not used to it.BTW whats double clutching?is it bad for my transmission??What about shifting without the clutch? Thanks

Don't shift without clutching, or you'll have to pick up a new clutch on your next grocery shopping trip. If you want to improve your 0-60 the first thing to do is learn how to drive the stick properly, then worry about adjusting the car... thats my opinion.
Double clutching is necessary for a certain type of transmission, I'll let someone who races explain that one to you. But if you have a standard rx-7 manual transmission then you dont have to worry about it.
These two links will explain very clearly how clutches and manual transmissions work, check them out.

How much were you revving the engine? you'll find more power in the upper rpm band. if you're shifting at 4k rpm, for example, you won't get a great time.

Your launch probably isn't good at all. When my car was stock, I got the best launch dropping the clutch at 4000-5000rpm. Also, shift around 6.5-7k if the car is bone stock. If you have any mods, then you'll probably go fastest shifting around 7-7.5k.

hmm, how can I be faster, should I be double clutching?

Seriously though, the only use I know for double clutching is to compensate for a transmission in bad shape - and that only to some degree.

When you shift "normally", you let off the gas, put in the clutch, change gears, let the clutch out, and get back on the gas.

When you double clutch, you let off the gas, put in the clutch, pull the car out of gear, let the clutch out, tap the gas to get a few hundred rpm rev, put the clutch back in, put the car into the new gear, let the clutch back out, and get back on the gas.

Basically, what you accomplish is to get everything in the transmission spinning at the same rate. It's easier on the synchros, but slightly harder on the clutch.

Yea, it was orriginally used in old transmissions without syncros. I have been in a car where the person double clutched even thou his syncros were good. U can definately feel the car accelerate alot, but i dont know if its more than if he shifted normal and matted it. But when he doubled it he pushed the clutch and jumped it up and 3 grand then popped the clutch so it wasnt really the exact same as double clutching. F and the F definately screwed up in the whole double clutching thing. I still hate that movie
