Simple and effective engine brace on race car.



What do you all think? I might build something of the sort and see how much vibration it transfers.

Should work sweet!

I didn't notice any additional vibration when I made mine... mine was just a length of heavy duty cable (3/16" I think) attaching one of the left strut bolts to the front engine hook's bolt. After fitting it, I added about 1/2" of preload with one of those sleazy emergency E-brake cable tighteners.

Again, no noticeable vibration, but a big difference in shifting - after a hard shift, the drivetrain wouldn't bounce side to side and break the tires loose. I thought it make make breaking loose EASIER - but sometimes you get your cake and eat it too!

That's a cool idea! I've seen the FD guys do stuff like that, but I never thought of doing it on my FB. Interesting...

So I take it that this is a good mod to do, I mean no massive vibrations or anything. I am already putting in the strutt tower brace and it won't be hard for me to add it right then. thanks.

Oh sure, if you want to just buy something off the shelf...

My cable cost $4! $2 for the cable & eye clamps and $2 for the adjuster, and I grabbed an old vacuum hose and slit it lengthwise to surroud the cable because it passed directly over my MSD coils. The adjuster is kinda necessary as the cable WILL stretch.

I've been thinking of making one out of some flat steel I have. I think I will just wait and get one when I get a strut bar.
