Shift Buzzer?

Hey

Playing in my se today and noticed that everytime I get to Red Line the car gives out a buzz like a horn sound.....

First couple of times I thought it was somebody else honking at me...

Can this be switched off?

Any other bells that come on?

Thanks

Jim

Sure you can disconect it. As far as I know it the only "bell". Search to learn more.

I got rid of that inacurate, loud, pain in the ***, friends asking "whats that" overrev buzzer. Its real easy to disconect, just pull out the cluster and remove a screw thats says OR or OB. Im not to sure on the earlier models but its like this on my 85.

How many of you actually red line your cars? And how often? I normally just shift at like 6K when Im in a BIG hurry ...How many times will they actually take 7K+? Are they really that tough?

Study the buzzer and the circuit that it's on. Be creative, I say. Do a search. (heh heh!)

...My car routinely sees nearly 8K. The difference with a performance carb and stock carb is that the 8K I see takes no time to get to.
With a stock carb, it would take alot of time and alot of heat to reach those kinds of RPMs.

Track racers go at 7-8K for hours.

That buzzer for the over-rev is located in the dash cluster and not in the little black box under the dash. The buzzer under the dash is used for the 'door switch', etc. There's really no easy way to disable this buzzer without taking the cluster out.

I don't drive her very often, (about once a week), so that day, she gets some red-line lovin.

It's good to run a rotary hard every once in a while, they get carbon buildup (bad) if you baby them too much. That's why you'lll see some ragged on rotaries with 200k miles. and some babied ones that died at like 60K miles.

My car was owned by a woman for 17 years, and it's faster now than when I got it in January. No ATF, No MMO. Just replaced ALL the fluids, and a tune-up, and gave her redline.

She's much happier now.

you've GOT to redline it once in a while, otherwise you get crap built up in it, and if YOU had a bunch of crap sitting inside you, would you be happy?
