i get between 350k(220 miles) and 400k (2 50miles) out of a tank in my 5speed 13b series 1. I thought that was bad but doesnt seem so bad compared to 105. Changing the idle speed to about 900rpm would make a bit of a difference but not that much i would of thought

Didn't he mean 105,000 kms on the car? 105k on a tank seems out of the range of possibility.
Man, 350-400 is good mileage!!! I typically get 275-300 kms to a tank with my Dellorto setup, RB exhaust and stock 12A.
Back when the car was stock, I used to get around 350-375 kms to a tank.
These are not cars for fuel economy - my Honda Civic gets 500 kms on half as much gas.

Waho! I feel special then! I got 271miles on a tank on my 12a bridgeport with Weber 50DCO, long tube headers. Ofcourse its also fair to mention I drove only highway miles with this figure...except on a undisclosed road were I did a top speed run for a 3mile full throttled...probably would of got 280 if it weren't for that. Usually though, get closer to 200-220miles/tank.

damn, i drove around maybe 2 nights, 1st of which wasn't that long at all, and i dropped to a 1/2 a tank already. i about **** myself. there's bad gas mileage and then there is "where is the leak?". i would also think if i'm going to get bad gas mileage, i should at least have power to go with it. i mean mustangs and camaros you always see pulling into stations and i would laugh. now i'm doing that and i can barely beat a civic, or my minivan. actually i'm not sure if i can beat my minivan..........

Yeah, it ticks me off too. I get the same gas mileage as my buddy with his 3rd gen (between 9 and 11mpg) but atleast he gets power out of his. Funny thing was I got it up to 15mpg when I put a bored out carb on it. Figured it'd go the other way. Never could get that thing to hot start though. Oh well.

when i first got my '83 i was getting about 18mpg around town. the car has basicly sat for the past 5 years and i am putting back together. when i started driving it again was found i was getting about 13mpg and shitty idle. i have played with the mixture and leaned it out a lot, my idle is better and i now get about 17mpg. this on a totally stock 12a with almost 180,000 miles, no rebuild and not much maintenance.
Oh yeah i did have a fuel line go bad around the fuel filter....i leak will really hurt your gas milage and left me stranded on the highway. after that i replaced my intrument cluster so i had a working fuel gauge again.....

The big problem with relaying your milage to others is they think you drive like them or assume something. WHich may be or may not be true. I know for a HUGE fact that sitting in traffic and driving around the Twin Cities here in MN I plan on losing about 5MPG overall for that tank. I live out in the sticks were I can get out on the backroads and highway and get many miles on fast which tend to be pretty decent(17-19mpg)...If I don't shift at 8500rpm each shift. Its all dependant on what percent of the time your not on the highway at 70mph is what accounts for your poor milage. This is true of any car, espically one that spends a lot of time being rev'd really high...which tends to consume a lot of fuel.

With my Dellorto, my mileage is even worse than SilverRockets. I haven't accurately pegged it, but I drive about 20km per day to and from work. And I fill up almost once per week (actually about once every 6 working days.

The best I have ever achieved was 600km on a tank, just over 410 miles. Cruising at 65-70 mph on a rural highway with only two slow downs to 50 wlie going through town restrictions.
On widing rural roads I get about 320-340 miles at the same speed but keeps the revs in the 3,200-4,500rpm
range. Pushing the revs up towards redline does not save much time, say a second per acceleration but ups the fuel consumption and engine wear.
Around a metropolitan city I get down to 250 miles per tank. That is 50% more than a friend with a street ported 13bt. The rotary problem is often a rotary driver problem with a delight to hear the revs roar!
