First you need to learn what you're working with. It's a rotary engine... And there are 2 rotors in the engine. I'm guessing your apex seals are chipped. do a compression test.

Your first order of business should be checking the archives and running a compression test. You remove one front spark plug, test the compression on the front rotor, move to the rear, and repeat. It'll tell you a lot about the condition of your engine and its seals.

Dude there are two ROTORS in a ROTARY engine. I'm not trying to make fun of you, but you're not saying it right. Back to the subject, your engine sounds like it is done. Do a compression test and you'll know. Or you could just take the just the leading spark plugs out, unplug the ignitors, and try and start the engine. It will not start like this but if you have compression the air will come rushing out of the plug holes. If you ave good compression you should hear the air equaly rushing out of the spark plug holes. PSSH! PSSH! PSSH! PSSH! PSSH! PSSH! PSSH! If it sounds like anything else it's blown. Take a video of yourself doing that and let us reevaluate it. If your engine is good the sound of the air rusing out will be so loud you won't want to stand next to the car. If not, you've no compression.

i know the apexi seals are good when i got the car i just found out by the old old owner that is was running to guy he sold it to and sold it to me because it stoped running. some of my buddys came over a week i had it and turned it over and said its a good motor.

but right now i am having a problem i am not geting fuel to the carb (thats why the spray bottel was in use lol) i think its the pump or filter.

I really enjoyed your videos and I hope you get the car running soon, you will find out just how much fun rotary RX-7s are to own and drive. But one question, if the engine is in good shape, how did you get all that smoke. I mean you and your buddies disappeared in it!

You need to do a compression check before you start diagnosing and working on other components such as carb and fuel pump. Although...you could easily change the fuel filter and that may be the root of the fuel starvation; it quite often is.

To be honest with you, it does sound like a rotor is blown due to blown apex seals. Nobody likes to hear that dire news, but, that sounds like the case. I've blown a rotor myself and that's how it sounds. It will continue to fire, spin etc...but will cause bad vibration and **** poor acceleration. It was a bitch to start too.

Do a compression test and let us know the results.

Sorry to say, but i have to agree....it does sound like your engine is blown. When my brother blew his motor, it would sound just like that. But to settle this finally, just take out the front lower spark plugs (Be careful with the plug wires) and Crank the motor to listen for even noises comming out. Then put it back together, and repeat for the other rotor. If when the motor is spinning, it doesnt sound even, then sorry to say, but the motor is no good.

Yes that motor has blown seals or stuck Apex seals (among other things). No matter what time its time to rebuild or new motor.

that smoke is from old gas and it was just me and my dad there.

JIMMY54: i hope its not blown if so i have no money for a new motor or a rebuild but i will try the test. i remember the test i did along time ago with my buddys and it was good then could a motor go bad from sitting?

maybe only gas was geting to one rotor when my dad gets home i am going to get him to get 2 spray bottols on both sides and maybe thats why is sounds blown. PLZ GOD I HOPE NOT

ray green: my dad works with someone who had one all he had was a header and a ram intake and cops got him going over 250kph

OK Damien, I just watched the videos and I agree, it looks like a bad fuel pump or dirty filter (you must have 4 or 5 fuel filters in that car, I can see two installed just in your pic of the carb!). After all, the car has been sitting and I agree just seeing it fire up is a real good sign.

In the mean time, two spray bottles for the win.

(but have your dad put the fire suit on just in case).

Ray

I don't think the engine is actually blown. An engine that sits that long can have stuck seals until it gets good and warm, which this one hasn't yet. Theres hope. My car sat for a period of about 2+ years on jackstands because it had a blown rear bearing and I was too busy to get to it. When I first started it up after cleaning up the fuel, filters and rebuilding carbs because the fuel gunked it all up, it ran like that and it was either firing on one rotor or it would be missing on one or both rotors until it finally got warmed up and was run for awhile. It took some time to get it running too. Once I got it running kind of ok, then I submitted it to a full seafoam treatment or two and its fine now.

Just ask Ray :-)

I doubt the motor is blown or that you can tell until you run it at temp for at least an hour or so. An old motor will have weaker springs and sitting getting all gunked up in 20 below weather like you guys have probably doesn't make it better. Keep working it, you'll get there eventually.

well i know now the motor is not blown. i did the test i was told and ever rotor is good and loud you could here it out side. i took off the fuel filter cleaned it put it back on for now (maybe get a new one tomarrow) took off the fuel pump it works. but i found out why it did not pump fuel i feel dumb for.....

no gas

but we ran out of time for now the motor omost started up with out puting gas down the carb. then a BIG FLAME shot out lighting the sprayer on fire for a little lol so i should get my dad a flame suit. hoping to get her running fix the brake line and the brakes (need some sanding because its on the rotor) drive it out side and let it burn the white smoke out.

"then a BIG FLAME shot out lighting the sprayer on fire"

More videos Damian, those first two were fantastic. I want to see the flames.

And the rest of the car!

Since you got it running it's definately worth buying some gas for.

A before and after kind of thing.

Nice work!

It sure does, I'm trying to figure out why I spent so much cash on my fuel system when I could just get someone to run down the street beside me spraying gas in...

(fiber glass cost way tomuch) and hoping i will have new tie rods for it. so tomarrow i am going to try and start it up with out gas down the carb.

This is what an rotary sounds like with both rotors with compression and an open exhaust. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=-0eGoh6kP8E
your engine is either blown or you have stuck seals. either way=rebuild.
http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=CbnIpdYj1YA
if it was fuel starvation it woud simply die. or lean surge. it isn't doing either of those things. I'm not trying to be an *******, but I garentee if you compression test it it's no good. By tat I mean you won't have over 90psi on all 6 faces. i'd doubt if you'd have 90 on more than 4 faces.
